surprised to see the Beat, Vista & Safari here. I guess Safari may be due to the immense brand recall & aspirational value in tier 3 cities. Not sure about the other two.

Sad to see mostly just hatchbacks and SUVs here....

Sub-4m has killed the Indian sedan.

People in tier 3 cities seem to be more adventurous compared to the people in tier 1 cities. Cars seem to be more evenly distributed among different brands in tier 3 cities. Would love to see the distribution of sales with respect to manufacturers in tier 3 cities.

I am surprised and happy to see the Figo in Tier 1 and Tier 3 cities. Though it might be due to the Figo's diesel engine and low resale value respectively.

Did I miss something, or is it true that Wagon R doesn't make it to the top 15 in tier 1 cities? Grand i10 takes it's place I guess.

Also I would agree to the fact that tier 3 cities has more types, makes and models in the top 15, but I think a major factor for that could also be due to the cost, like Tata Vista is available at a way lower price than the equivalent model of Swift. Similarly a used Tata Safari goes dirt cheap in comparison to a similar model of Scorpio.
Biggest surprise, No sub-4m cars for tier 3 cities, not even Dzire! Go big or go home. No conservative approach here, either a proper hatchback, or a proper sedan or a full blown SUV. What an interesting study this is. The best part - No Innova

I guess population is another factor to consider here, tier 1 will have much more diverse consumer base compared to a tier 3 city. Tier 1 consumers have absolutely different needs and aspirational values and that is very evident here, sub-4m sedans and sub-4m SUVs are absolutely loved like the Dzire, Brezza, Ecosport etc., also some enthusiasm prevail hence we see the Polo.

Good one, especially since OLX is the big daddy of used car classifieds in India. But more than actual sales, it's just showing interest / curiosity. There's no connection to actual sales or even resale prices for that matter (Safari is the best example).

As an example, here are the top search queries on Team-BHP for 2018. As you can see, it has no correlation to sales:

As mentioned, this ranking is based on the queries against the listing in Olx. And top 4 slots are fully occupied with Maruti, barring i10 and bolero.

Does it mean that more no. of Maruti Swift , Desire, WagonR and Alto were offered for sale in Olx ? Or Preowned segment also captured by Maruti?

And, curious to know , why do they sell ? as GTO asked in a thread here, and, post selling their Maruti, what would be their next one ? Any such statistics?
