Kwid is based on the CMF-A Platform. The CMF-A+ is the bigger platform in comparison to the Kwid.

The Triber may not get very high crash test ratings but it has to "do the job" of clearing the India crash test norms that will come into effect this year. Same thing goes with the Kwid facelift that will launch after the Triber and Duster.
Yes they reinforced the driver side of the car to pass the NCAP results for Offset Impact at the front.

re: Renault Triber, the Kwid-based MPV. EDIT : Launched at Rs. 4.95 lakhs

Even though it seems untrue to me (maybe just a click bait), but a CarToq Article states that the Triber will be launched between 4.4 - 5.8 Lakhs as a 5 seater, and the third row seats can be individually bought for Rs.3000 each.

Quote:
Renault India’s big launch for 2019 is a compact MPV called the Triber. Showcased days ago, the Renault Triber compact MPV will be launched next month. CarToq’s sources have revealed that the compact MPV will be priced very competitively. Prices of the Triber will start from Rs. 4.4 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, for the base variant, going all the way up to Rs. 5.8 lakhs for the top-end trim. Also, the two additional seats that can be installed as the third row in this unique compact MPV can be purchased for Rs. 3,000 each. This is something that no other MPV in India offers. The Triber is aimed at younger car buyers who want a modern looking, spacious MPV that is very affordable as well.

The Renault Triber is the French automaker’s second MPV for the Indian market with the first being the slow selling Lodgy. Unlike the Lodgy, which is a diesel-only MPV that will be discontinued next year as the Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms come into effect, the Triber will be a petrol-only car. It will use the Kwid’s 1 liter-3 cylinder petrol engine tuned to produce 72 Bhp of peak power and 96 Nm of peak torque.

This engine will be offered with two gearbox options: a 5 speed manual and a 5 speed AMT. The Triber will be a front wheel driven MPV that is based on the Renault Kwid’s CMF-A platform. Apart from selling this compact MPV in India, Renault also has plans to export it to developing markets where the Kwid is quite popular.

The compact MPV’s dimensions are as follows. It’ll measure 3,990 mm in length, allowing it to qualify for excise duty benefits as it’s classified as a small car. Width stands at 1,739 mm while the wheelbase measures 2,636 mm. The MPV stands 1,643 mm tall and has a ground clearance of 182 mm, which is quite ample for most Indian conditions. A kerb weight of 947kg means that the 1 liter petrol engine should be peppy enough for everyday use.

Renault’s focus with the Triber has been to boost interior space and the compact MPV comes with decent shoulder room across all three rows: 1,356 mm in the first row, 1,330 mm in the second row and 1,216 mm in the third row. Airbags, reverse parking sensors and ABS will be standard on the top-end trim, along with a touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry and many other creature comforts. Bookings for the car will commence shortly, and deliveries will start right from the launch date.

Or rather it may be the 1.0 turbo being tested?

Notice the 'On Test' sticker on the rear windscreen.

The car looks substantial but unimpressive. Like the Xylo!

Looks like dead on arrival, unless they price is low enough to buy market share.

Sorry bro! But why would you say it "looks" dead on arrival?
This car looks much better than the others in its segment (Eeco, Go+, etc.), the pricing and performance has not been declared yet.

Calling it dead on arrival even before it has arrived is like aborting a baby even before its born thinking/assuming that it won't become something great ahead in life.

re: Renault Triber, the Kwid-based MPV. EDIT : Launched at Rs. 4.95 lakhs

Wow, 4 airbags are a welcome addition. Kudos to Renault for that!

Looking at the leaked document, it seems that Renault is pushing it against the Swift, Grand i10 and Baleno. This strategy could very well backfire because the other cars offer a better experience if one looks beyond space and practicality.

Ideally, they should market the Triber as a distinct product (which it is) with Ertiga as the closest competitor.

Few points that i noted through the 10 minutes i had in proximity of the car:
  • Being sub 4m, and MPVish, it looked disproportionate. Not an eye catcher for sure.
  • In the rear view mirror it looks like a regular hatch.
  • All in all, it looks like Renault has backed the wrong horse on this one and it might well be the straw that broke the camels back. I'll let the pictures do the talking.
Quoting my previous post on the Triber camouflaged to provide some context. The Triber keeps following me, I've spotted it multiple times and in production version without camouflage recently. Seems like i'd need to retract my earlier statements on the looks.
Below are my recent observations by spending ~10 mins in proximity of the car, followed by some pictures.
  • The Triber has a much better stance when looked from front, not hatch like as i mentioned earlier. It looks more like a Lodgy/Captur in the IVRM which is a good thing.
  • The color i spotted it in, was closer to the red shade of the Kwid, and till the C pillar carries a lot of similarities with the Kwid.
  • The hump in the roof is cleverly hidden by the roof rails and creases, not really evident unless you look for it.
  • It was doing decent speeds on the ORR, and seemed like it has just enough grunt (though there was only the driver in it)
  • For a while, it was travelling alongside ecosport, it looked a bit taller than ecosport (may be due to the hump), but both looked comparable, which is saying a lot.
  • All in all, I am of the opinion now that Renault have done a tremendous job with the Triber. Be it the space management, the looks, the perceived value or the features. The only things that i'll wait for are the reviews on engine performance and the gncap ratings (Renault have fared poorly historically). I believe Renault will price this well and marketing has been satisfactory so far.
Some pictures below (pardon the bad quality)

P.S: I still like the alloys, the one I spotted seems to be the top version sporting 15" rims. It'll look much better on the trademark orange shade that Renault uses. I also appreciate Renault for providing 4 airbags, but will never trust them till GNCAP tests them. Don't forget, they tried to pull a fast one on GNCAP by equipping the Duster with a smaller airbag.
