Re: Skoda in control of VW's product development for India; car based on MQB-A0-IN platform coming s

Is there any possibility that Skoda introduces the revised 1.0, 1.5 L TSI petrol engines to their existing lineup before the April 2020 BS6 cutoff?

I think their existing engine options like the 1.4, 1.8 L TSI are/were being sold as Euro 6 compliant in certain markets but haven't heard them advertising these as BS6 ready so far.

Yes both 1.4 and 1.8 TSI were sold as Euro6 engines here in EU. But 1.4 is now replaced with 1.5 and 1.8 is not available in VW Golf & Skoda Octavia line ups (only in Seat Leon) since past few years. Now entry level Passat and A4 are sold with 1.4/1.5 and entry level Golf and Octavia with 1.0.

So in India I guess it would be 1.0 for Vento/Rapid and 1.5/2.0 for Octavia.

The 1.5TSI is expected to power some variants of its CUV, when launched.

My research so far indicates that the 1.8 TSI is being phased out globally and it started around September 2018 when the WLTP changes came into effect in the EU.

The Octavia would surely be upgraded to use the new powerplants but i am concerned whether this can happen with the current model that is on sale in India or would Skoda consider bringing it next year with the complete model refresh.

Re: Skoda in control of VW's product development for India; car based on MQB-A0-IN platform coming s

Same info. reaffirmed again with some new insights.

-Volkswagen to ramp up localisation to 92% over the next two-three years (current 82 per cent )

-Strategic priorities in the domestic market to focus on -- people, brand, network, corporate business, loyalty and digitalisation.

- First product under India 2.0 was expected to hit the roads by 2020. ( earlier announcement was 2021)

- The new products rolled out in India would be under the company's MQB Platform

- Marketshare from the current 1.4 per cent to 3 per cent in two-three years

-Expanding retail touch points from the current 120 to 150.

- Volkswagen would come out with a sub-compact sports utility vehicle.

-On EV -there is no offer in the market. It is purely aspirational and it is in the right direction. but you have to see the market environment. The infrastructure is not here.

Looks like they are not serious about their India 2.0 plan. They are suppose to be global biggie and have 2 mass market brands in India (VW and Skoda)

June 2019 Indian car sales ~ 220000 units
VW + Skoda combined sale ~ 3500 units ~ 1.5% share
Target share within 3 years ~ 3% ~ just 7000 units that too VW and Skoda combined!

Mr. Zac Hollis, Director, Skoda India visits Kia and MG Motors showrooms and check out the Hector and Seltos.

KIA Seltos being bench-marked?

Skoda's S/CUV Kamiq previews the next GEN. of VAG products for India - Will it be Skoda's game changer product for India, in this over crowded S/CUV segment?

The world's best small SUV?

VW India Plans ( already known, now on video)

- Future portfolio will be heavily driven by SUV's ( all T's - T ROC/T CROSS/T SPORT ?)

- Localized products to MQB-A0 platform

- Polo current sales are 40 % TSI's and 45 % of customers buying the entry level Polo's are first time buyers.

- Govt. policies and stable decisions will drive EV introduction from VW in India ( including clean energy source)

Volkswagen T-Cross and Skoda KAMIQ will debut at Auto Expo 2020 in pre-production form.

- Skoda Kamiq will be launched in 2021 , and will be the first of the new product launches from the group.

-T-Cross SUV will see a market launch later in 2021 after the Skoda

-The model will be built on the longer (and more affordable) version of the MQB A0 platform used in markets like South America and China.

- More chrome and Bling and hence the T Cross will look more like the one in the Chinese market,

-The Volkswagen T-Cross will get a higher 205 mm ground clearance

- No diesel engine, and will come in 2 petrol engine options

Quote:
The T-Cross will come with two petrol engine options for India. The mainstay will be a 130hp, 1.5-litre, four-cylinder EVO TSI petrol. This engine will feature cylinder-deactivation technology as well, which is likely to help it achieve better fuel economy figures. Additionally, there could also be a 115hp, 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine for the lower variant. This engine will be a three-cylinder unit and will be shared with other Volkswagen models here as well. No diesel engine shall be on offer. Volkswagen will likely introduce CNG powered models for the T-Cross in the market and it’s likely to come with a CNG variant too

Skoda's New Rapid sedan to launch in late 2021.

- Will be built in the MQB A0 IN platform

- No diesel Variant

- Will get the 1.0L TSI engine ( mainstay engine for the group)

- Localization to ~ 92-95 percent

- Skoda and VW sedans will not be mere badge-engineering jobs and will be far more differentiated than the current Rapid and Vento.

^^
This is in sync with the earlier statement that the Karoq will be launched in first half of 2020. I hope that it undercuts the Tiguan by a significant margin and competes with the Jeep Compass which will be fair.
