Thank you! If it the 'same old', engine, it would be interesting to see what gearbox it comes with. A 9-speed unit has the potential to transform the experience by being more effective in working around the old engine's weak spots in power delivery.

With respect to the 0-100 times, the old CRV's 2.0 MT was faster than the 2.4 AT (Autocar India figures). A good gearbox (even if AT) can probably shave off a second and get it into the 'below 10-second' category, which should be good for.enthusiasts.

A lot of 'ifs-and-buts', though. Fresh news would help kill the speculation.

Any idea about the power to weight ratio of the CR-V in both petrol and diesel guise, and how it compares with its rivals on that front?

Taking the figures from the UK website -

1.6 Diesel Manual - 1592kg.
Power - 120hp.
Power to weight - 75.38 hp/ton.

1.6 Diesel Automatic 4WD - 1724kg.
Power - 120hp.
Power to weight - 69.60hp/ton.

Petrol 2.0 Manual - 1515kg.
Power - 154hp.
Power to weight - 101.65hp/ton.

Petrol 2.0 Automatic 4WD - 1645kg.
Power - 154hp.
Power to weight - 93.62hp/ton.

I have a feeling the new CR-V will come worse off in any battle with the Toyota Fortuner - which has more than 60% of its sales in rural India, while Honda has traditionally targeted the urban customer. For the urban user, the Hyundai Tucson is better value for money, while the CR-V is unlikely to beat the Tiguan in terms of interior quality and equipment.

So the CR-V 5 seater would have made more sense no?

Would have been cheaper and also made sense to smaller urban families, in terms of size (especially parking) as also luggage capacity as in any case you have to fold the last row seats for suitcases.

Will be interesting to see if customers still view Honda as a premium brand and pay approx 40L OTR for the CR-V!

That said Honda fans will be happy with what seems to be a welcome return to form in the new CR-V!
