Toyota has a couple of options here.
In the coming months, the entry price for a Toyota will jump straight from 7 lakhs to 20 lakhs, ( Glanza sells for its badge, okay price and warranty may count. Yaris for all its positives is still a facelifted decade old car )

Don't know the rationale behind not launching the 2020 Corolla. It's a legacy model and any arguments of dead segments or lack of volumes fall flat on its face when they are happy to sell the Camry hybrid.

Toyota really needs a hybrid model under 20 lakhs if it wants to make any impact and keep the loyal fanbase happy. They didn't bring a hybrid engine with the Yaris, nor are they gonna launch the 2020 Yaris or Corolla. Impractical 'high riding' hatch or what, the CH-R with a hybrid engine and under 20 lakhs will set the sales chart on fire. Rav4 maybe practical size in India, but would end up costing as much as the Camry.

Well, looking at Toyota's plans to give the Etios plant to Maruti, guess it rebadged Marutis from now on. The CH-R may well be component testing.

Toyota C-HR crossover spied testing in India

Toyota CHR is a good product and a good option for India. I don't know why Toyota India is convinced and stuck and content with only selling Camry fortuner and Innova only. They should've launched BS6 corolla and also should quickly launch this hybrid CHR. According to Toyota dealers CHR is not coming to India.

It’s quite fuel efficient and funky but I feel it won’t work well in India. Being a Toyota, it will have ‘superior’ price tag than the competition, the interiors are cramped, and can feel claustrophobic in the rear with that almost non-existent rear-window.

True. I have seen quite a few of these in Singapore.
Does not seem to have the presence to rival Compass. In the rear, the windows almost block any view outside.
If they do intend to pitch it against Compass whenever they plan to bring it to India, I am not sure how it will fare in a population that loves the SUVish looks more than anything.

Re: Toyota C-HR crossover spied testing in India

I absolutely love the look of C-HR. Looks very bold and very different from the crowd. A perfect example of how good a product can look if its not confined to sub 4m length.

Found this nice review:

And, this offroad video:

Scoop! Toyota C-HR continues testing in India

The Toyota C-HR crossover has been spotted testing in India once again.

Looking at the front fascia and the alloy wheels, this particular test car appears to be the Chinese version of the C-HR. Unlike the European version, this test mule does not have scrolling indicators and stripe brake lights. Instead, it has dot LEDs for both the brake light and turn indicators. The car does not have a rear centre reflector but is equipped with a prominent rear spoiler.

This camouflaged test mule has Continental stickers on it, which suggests that it could be testing some components.

The Toyota C-HR is based on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. In the international market, the crossover is offered with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 144 BHP and 188 Nm. The engine is mated to an e-CVT unit that drives the front wheels.

Re: Toyota C-HR crossover spied testing in India

I really hope the CH-R comes to India as soon as possible. The Toyota brand badly needs a strong, youthful product to take away from their current "uncle" image (no offence intended).

I like the CH-R too. It's funky yet practical and it's high time they bring a product in the most hot segment in the market right now.

Fingers crossed, just hope they don't price it out of justification!

Re: Toyota C-HR crossover spied testing in India

C-HR, HRV, Jimny are Japanese cousins whose parents think they don't fit into Indian lifestyle. So occasional visits only.

Re: Toyota C-HR crossover spied testing in India

The C-HR if priced competitively 12-15 L, may stand a chance owing to its badge value compared to the better ones like Sonet. Anything more will result it being dead on arrival, but hey ... Toyota has been brought up on Hara Kiri and they seem committed to do it in India at least.
The C-HR going by the Car wow and other reviews looks to be highly impractical and small. the hybrid mileage is not going to be a huge advantage over a competing diesel. the value prop seems to be the quirky styling, perceived economy of Hybrid and as always the T Badge. Will I pay 20 Big ones for it ... now that may be a grudging story to be written in the future!!!

Re: Toyota C-HR crossover spied testing in India

They should just bring in the CHR as CBU a la VW at sub 20 , and gauge market interest.

At worst, it would be a great brand building exercise targeting the millennial market

Re: Toyota C-HR crossover spied testing in India

Sorry to burst the bubble guys. This car has nothing to do with Toyota Kirloskar motors. It is owned and operated by Continental to test some of its active safety systems on board. Since it regularly is ferried to Hosur for testing, it has been spotted in E City where the office is located. Hence, we can lay rumors about Toyota bringing it to India to rest until something else shows up.

Re: Toyota C-HR crossover spied testing in India

Toyota's crossover seen on test again, fuels an Indian launch again!

- Platform testing/ CBU / ?

Quote:
The crossover appears to have been used by Continental tyres as a test vehicle recently as well. Toyota could test the waters in the premium SUV space with the C-HR as it could be positioned below the Fortuner. The C-HR is underpinned by the modular TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform and it could compete against the likes of Jeep Compass, VW T-Roc and Skoda Karoq.
