Side-mirrors play a huge part in 'increasing' the car width, manufacturers should be very clear about this.
I checked the specs on both sites. The Tata Motors site shows 'Width' and has a diagram with arrows pointing to two ends of the front bumper - 1620mm.

Specifications

The Mahindra Renault site says "OVERALL width" 1742mm

Mahindra Renault - Logan

Again there's a length of 4150 mm quoted by Tata and an Overal Length of 4250 mm quoted by M&M. Thats 100mm - 10 cms is a fairly large difference in a neck-to-neck class like that. Thats about a 3rd of a foot.

It was being compared to corolla and honda civic for width. If true much wider seats adding to rear seat comfort. Ofcourse other parameters like height, width of seats, etc.. contribute to it too.

I found this on a Logan site:

G Overall width / plus door mirrors 1735 / 1975

So its WITHOUT the mirrors!

You'll get full dimensions here, including interiors:

Renault Logan Car - Dimensions of Renault Logan Car

So whats Tata going to do now - sell Indigo XL at regular Indigo rates?

Hope the extra length / width has been effectively used in the Logan..

Looks like the start of a long and bloody war between the 2 ...Good for us consumers IMO

the V-series is the old indigo before the face lift, only available in GLS/LS version i.e. no frills except power steering. The facelift version is about 30K more without anything to offer but slightly better colours and trim. Still the same mechanicals underneath.

I hope the Logan proves that the Indigo is actually a very good car.

Whats the use of selling a LWB model without the creature comforts? 3.9L is too good a price for the XL (Which came in only 1 trim, I used to think).

I am very interested in finding how the steering/dashboard is organized. I have seen vehicles like ford fusion/Daewoo Matiz where the wiper control was on the right and the indicator control on the left. I really feel that there should be a legislation to have a common alignment of control on all Indian cars
These big car manufacturers just change the steering placement and keep rest of the things the same saving cost and treating our market as a third world market and also never provide any major security features. Although off late the things have started to change but it is still long way to go

Mahindra Logan dimensions

Friends:

Here's a thought.

Why don't we banish the days of manufacturer disinformation forever?

As a car-focused group who don't care for any manufacturer's business interests, we could measure these dimensions for all domestic market cars
and post them on our forum, for ourselves.

Motor magazine, UK used to do this for donkey's years as part of their car by car road tests. As a kid building cardboard scale models from scratch, I remember studying issues of Motor magazine in the British Council library at Backbay Reclamation in the 1960s.

BS Review of Logan DLS

todays BS Motoring has a review of top end DSL version.
Here's are some points i noted from the article:

build, comfort:
a. solid build quality
b. handles bad roads, speed breakers, corners well
c. lots of space, airy cabin, elbow room, headroom, this room, that room
d. rear seat very comfortable for 3 adults
e. doesn't look cheap, but to the trained eye cost cutting is obvious
f. (my fav gripe) no redlining on dials - to use same dials for petrol & diesel

power:
a. was very easy to cruise the congested Mumbai traffic, gear ratios good for commuting
b. 060 in 6.7s
c. runs out of steam on highways
d. 0-100 in 18.7s

Economy:
over a 600 km drive, car returned 20 kmpl easily in highway.

Nothing New..Some times back , there was an ad for Baleno by Maruti , which said it has an AC better than the mercedes C class.. This was extensively used in the print media and in their product brochures..

As long as the claims are backed up by facts, ( in this case dimensions , easy to measure and crosscheck ), see nothing wrong in comparative ads..
