The Renault Kwid facelift has been revealed through a set of spy images that have just surfaced online. The updated model gets styling tweaks and added features.

According to the spy images, the dual-tone front bumper and circular fog lamps have been carried over unchanged, however the front now features a chrome grille. The ORVM housings appear to be larger and are finished in a contrasting colour, similar to the wheel caps. A rear view camera has been integrated into the Renault logo placed on the tail gate.

Minor changes can be seen on the interior as well. The car has chrome door handles and an additional 12V socket for the rear seat passengers. Like the current model, the piano black centre console houses a touchscreen infotainment system.

Renault is expected to offer the updated Kwid with the same set of petrol engines as the outgoing model. These include an 800 cc, 3-cylinder unit which develops 53 BHP @ 5,678 rpm and 72 Nm of torque @ 4,386 rpm and a 999 cc, 3-cylinder unit that makes 67 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and 91 Nm @ 4,250 rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission is likely to be offered as standard, while the 1.0-litre version could get an optional 5-speed AMT.

They should have used this opportunity to add a rear wash wipe and some safety features. Kwid is no longer a cheap car to buy; Some variants are priced very close to Tiago/Celerio which are better equipped and hopefully safe too.

I think they could have used this face-lift to add more features which would make it a more worthy contender against the Alto. Wasted opportunity if they don't IMHO.

Oh, and wow, those are some very specific RPM figures. Are they accurate? stupid:

Cheers

Wow, a little less than 3 years and there's already an update on the car. Renault India has been surprisingly quick too - this facelift was only just spotted in Southern Europe (link).

Not that I'm complaining. But the Kwid needs an adrenalin shot. Its sales are now hovering between the 5,000 - 6,000 level which is lower than we'd initially seen (and expected) the car to do. Maruti is getting stronger and the Tiago especially has proven to be formidable competition in the segment (Tata is frequently touching the 8,000 sales mark).

In terms of the overall product, I really like the Kwid. But Renault needs to work on two things to build a reputation:

1. Niggles & QC. Am seeing small issues being reported on the Kwid (example)

2. The quality of sales & after-sales. Both leave a lot to be desired.

As reported by Renault. Agree that they seem weird.

I've analyzed the European shots from CarPix and they are a little different Rush. The bumper and foglamp area look quite different to what Renault has here, what they are testing in the Alps surely has more changes. Here is just an aggrandization of the existing model with chrome braces, the real facelift should be reserved for 2019.

Sumit Sawhney (MD of Renault India) has promised regular product 'animations' for the Kwid to keep it interesting, so this is definitely not the end of it :-)

Thanks for the share!

Interesting to see the placement of the rear-view camera!

IMO its placed a bit too high, a novelty none the less.

(but, some might find it obscenely in your face, if you are driving behind the car stupid:)

Searched and found that this is also quite common for other brands as an after market accessory. Common mostly for the front emblem and fewer on the rear end as the Logos are usually placed high.

This is more like a minor update of the car rather than a proper facelift. This is similar to what the Jazz received a few days back. Dwindling sales of the Kwid might have been one factor due to which this 'update' was introduced. We might see a proper facelift next year.

That being said, the set of features that Renault has brought to this segment is nothing short of excellent. Till only a few years back, all these features would have been a part of only the top-spec B-2 segment hatchbacks and compact sedans.

Still only single airbag and no ABS?

Is the AMT still a rotary knob with no manual override?

Pradeep

Next year, they will come up with the major upgrade/facelift, which will be compliant with the crash norms and may include ABS as standard.

Will look forward to that iteration of Kwid.

While the Kwid isn't quite the car to bring in all the cash for Renault, it is now turning out to be their sole car that is doing well. It is important that updates are quick.

The Kwid manages to outsell the far superior Hyundai Eon too and if you can manage almost 28% volumes of the segment best seller Suzuki Alto, I think that is great.

While there are no structural improvements, I am glad that some changes around seat belts are in place. The engine vibrations are about the only complaint I have with this otherwise nice little run about.

Not sure if anyone has seen this. Ranbir Kapoor disguised himself as a Sales Advisor and tried to sell the new Kwid to a couple. Looks scripted to me, will leave the judgement to all of you. However, the concept is not bad.

Renault Kwid to get ABS, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto

Renault recently updated the Kwid with inclusion of a reverse camera and some more equipment, and now thanks to the upcoming government laws, all variants of the Kwid will come with standard ABS and rear parking sensors.

Additionally, with this feature addition, Renault will also update the Kwid’s infotainment system and add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to make it more competitive to the likes of the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Wagon R that comes with Maruti’s new SmartPlay Studio system.

Renault Kwid with ABS, Android Auto & new features LAUNCHED
(source)

Renault has just launched the 2019 edition of the Kwid hatchback with a slew of updates, both in terms of safety and creature comforts. Prices are unchanged despite the feature additions, which means that the 2019 Renault Kwid offers much more value than before, making it better placed to take on the newly launched, 3rd generation Maruti WagonR. Prices of the 2019 Renault Kwid start from Rs. 2.66 lakhs, making it one of the lowest priced cars in the country.

The 2019 Renault Kwid now gets ABS+EBD as standard across all trims, along with a driver airbag, speed sensing door lock, ELR seatbelts even on the rear seat, reverse parking sensors and over-speeding alert. The top-end variants of the car also get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity options on the touchscreen.

The AMT variants of the car get a crawl mode, which Renault calls ‘traffic assist’ mode. Apart from these feature additions, the car remains similar to the 2018 version mechanically. Competition for the Kwid comes from the likes of the Maruti Alto, Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and the recently launched new Maruti WagonR. The Kwid is Renault’s least priced offering, and is mainly aimed at first time car buyers.

The safety feature additions are meant to make the Kwid compliant with the upcoming Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP) norms that come into effect from October 2019. It is not known if Renault has also strengthened the body structure of the Kwid in any way. A Global NCAP test that was conducted about a year ago revealed that the Kwid’s body structure was unstable.

The Kwid is based on the CMF-A platform. The CMF-A platform, or the common module family platform, has been jointly developed by Renault and Nissan to produce affordable cars with a high amount of parts sharing for emerging markets such as India and Latin America. Apart from the Kwid, the Datsun RediGo also uses the CMF-A platform, and soon, Renault will launch a low cost MPV based on this platform. The launch timeline for the RBC code-named MPV is late 2019 in the Indian market.

Talking of the mechanical aspects of the Kwid, the car is available with 2 engine options – an 800cc-3 cylinder petrol with about 57 Bhp on tap and a 1 liter-3 cylinder petrol that puts out 68 Bhp. Both engines get 5 speed manual gearboxes as standard, and the bigger engine also gets a 5 speed AMT option. The Kwid’s butch styling and high ground clearance give it the stance of a mini-crossover, and Renault has even capitalized on this by launching the Climber edition of the car.

The Renault Kwid is available with a range of personalisation options at the dealer level. These options allow owners of the car to extensively customize their rides to make them stand out from the thousands of other Kwids on the streets. Also, the personalisation options will not void factory warranty, which is an added layer of safety for Kwid owners.

Attaching the new brochure below as well, sad to see the Front Passenger Airbag still missing in this update!!
