Default Hyundai planning a Micro SUV to rival the Renault Kwid

In an era of 'SUV's, this in no surprise!

Similar to Maruti Suzuki's upcoming FUTURE S, Hyundai sees potential for an 'SUV' under the upcoming Carlino-based sub-4m model, but final decision yet to be taken.

Hyundai hints the carmaker's decision to go ahead with the micro SUV could be based on the response to Maruti Suzuki's own micro SUV - the production version of the Future-S Concept from Auto Expo 2018

What Hyundai needs to understand is that majority people in this price band decides based on the on-road price first, and then on the looks. Kwid succeeded because it was offered more or less in the Alto price band (with 'different' looks). Hyundai had a brilliant opportunity with the Eon, but decided to play safe with a 25K price difference over the Alto. For my dad (and many relatives), this was enough to tilt the scale in favor of the Alto.

Seems like Hyundai will go the value route when compared to the direct price competition route. So more features it is
AMT will be the go-to gearbox for these products and maybe even the next version of i20.
New turbo petrol power plants on the way too.

I've slightly a different theory.
As the Kwid's new boy tag fades even the sales numbers are showing the real picture. What the customer looks for in that segment is the value proposition.
And Tiago is the black horse in that segment. Tata Motors has learned and reinvented itself in that segment. And that's whom Hyundai should try to emulate.

Auto companies to enter the micro-SUV segment in a big way.

With increasing preference for crossover and sports utility vehicles in India, automakers are coming out with a range of small and affordable SUVs to offer an alternative to buyers who look for small cars

Here is how the road map will look up :

- Maruti Suzuki's Y1K( Future S) - Mid 2019

- Tata Motors launch of the X445, or the Hornbill - 2021

- Hyundai's Micro SUV by 2021-22

- Datsun's 'SUV' in 2021

- PSA too have small crossovers or SUVs as part of their India rollout plan.
