Mitsubishi is going to have to hard sell this SUV over the kings from Toyota and Ford! It doesn't seem to have any USPs apart from Mitusbishi's old legacy and collateral fame of the Lancer. If they do it properly, the company stays afloat in India otherwise it's the last nail in the coffin.

DEAD ON ARRIVAL
Amazes me, what these management people think when they launch these products at ROFL prices.

Exact same product, but CKD assembled in India. Price gets slashed by half. If this thing is priced at Compass levels, which it seemingly can, it can work. Not in a million years like this.

Like seriously Mitsubishi!!
The first line of sales 101 is to see what is selling in the market you intend to sell. You did not have a single person in your entire team who could point out to you that a Petrol only SUV over 30 lakhs from a brand that has hardly any presence or aspirational value just do not sell in India. Look at the CRV, very competent at what it is intended for but did not sell. This is a clear DOA.

It is one thing to not find buyers in the market and another to not even manage to garner some attention on an exclusive car forum. Just 4 posts in the thread right after launch ( and that includes the opening post ).
I still do not understand how are they even managing to survive in our market. Are they still being advised/guided by the erstwhile HM experts?

Thats horrendous pricing. A top end Outlander with diesel and all wheel drive can be had for around $40k here in Australia and its got way more feature that what they sell in India.

Re: 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander launched at Rs. 31.95 lakh

Did these guys not learn anything from the launch of the old GS platform of the same car? It failed for two reasons and we see the same repeated again.

Pricing aside, the failure of the model is a given as a result of offering a 2.4l petrol engine which I am sure won't manage anything more than 5kmpl in the city cycle. A plug in hybrid would have improved matters a bit.

Unfortunately; Mitsubishi have a rather lame 2.3l diesel in the international market for this model.

Sad state of affairs for a company that was once the Rally and SUV champ.

If they were anyway getting an expensive CBU they might have considered the hybrid. At least it would have made their offering unique amongst 7 seat SUVs. The new CRV will hog whatever little sales Mitsubishi could have hoped for.

Unrelated note but did anyone see the Autocar video of launch. Mitsubishi has not even bothered to remove the plastic from the drivers side front and back for a media video shoot. 🙄

Is it just me or this looks more like a product from the Toyota / Lexus stable?

HM-Mitsubishi is little more than a glorified 'car importer' today. Think of your area's local car dealer, but with a better office and in a Raymonds suit. The car is imported as a CBU, hence their risk is zero.

The press releases have arrived from a gmail account . Total low cost + low risk operation.

Re: 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander launched at Rs. 31.95 lakh

The bosses said they've targeted 250-300 units for the Outlander, i.e. 25/month, which is par for the course for a Mitsubishi product and annual revenue turns out to be 96 crores. Assuming there's a price cut and discounts here and there it's even lesser.

So they've narrowed down to their most probable buyers by setting an achievable target. Only God knows if they'll have enough money to keep the product for 5 years.

I wonder why Mitsubishi India hasn't been absorbed with the Nissan-Renault alliance till date given that Mitsubishi in Japan is part of that group now... atleast for product servicing of Mitsubishi cars post sales, if not for showroom sales/cross branding.

Re: 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander launched at Rs. 31.95 lakh

If they had to get a car, just for the sake of it, why not the new gen Pajero Sport as CBU?

Pajero & Pajero Sport have loyal fan following, it could have converted into slightly better sales numbers from people who do not want to go in for either Ford Endeavour or Toyota Fortuner.

This thing is Dead on Arrival Why do you think one should buy Outlander above- Jeep Compass, Honda CR-V or Hyundai Tucson. Proper SUV buyers are not even going to look at it.

This car would have made sense had it been launched during demonitisation fiasco. Folks with fast money would have lined up in queue with cash rich bags to buy this at around 40lacs onroad! HM guys deserve a standing ovation for their guts to launch something like this.

Re: 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander launched at Rs. 31.95 lakh

Thought of checking out the Mitsubishi Website. In the Auto Zone, the image shown is of older Outlander, which was discontinued long back. A genuine mistake or just plain laziness? Mitsubishi management is absolutely clueless. Also, how many variants of Pajero are on sale? There is Pajero Sport, Pajero Sport DT and Pajero Sport Select Plus
