re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

They might do it the way they did for Tigor EV. Like a web series.

Show the car, give specifications in first episode.

Price, variant launch in the next episode.

Actual launch in season finale.

So, it is going to be almost the length of a Tiago, but SUV characteristic of a Nexon. So someone who wants a high ground clearance car but cannot stretch for a budget of Nexon should go for this? Something like how Ford Freestyle sits between Figo and Ecosport?
* Any hatchback buyer
* Any customer who want SUV look but have low budget
* Alternate option to their hatch back customers (Tiago and Altroz)
* Then there are some customers who are looking for rugged, compact, with high GC, and fuel efficient vehicle which is reasonably priced.

Nexon was launched in 2017 @ 5.8X L starting price and now the starting price is @ 7.XX L. HBX will fill that place in their portfolio. I think it is going to be better than KUV and Ignis.

Looks more proportional and smart than Ignis. Would be looking for the transmission and engine options. May be a good choice for the wife in city traffic - higher seating +better view

Hoping TML doesn't skimp on powertrain combinations and simply launch it with Tiago's lethargic petrol engine- AMT combination! That would be a downer.

Would also be interesting to find out if they would use this launch for introducing their upcoming 7 speed Dual Clutch Transmission. There was confusion whether Tata would be sourcing their gearboxes from the Belgian company Punch or the German Schaeffler.

Autocar has reported that it will indeed be Punch Powertrain's DT-1 wet clutch unit. This will be paired with India's first indigenously built transmission gearshifter by Lumax Auto Technologies. This will be a big change from the regular diet of AMT units that Indian car buyers in the lower segments have to live with.

The question is whether TML will introduce the new gearbox with the HBX or Altroz?!

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

I was about to buy Ignis when I found about HBX. Have been waiting for this car from a few months. Now, just glad to know they have finally started the PR for it and looking forward for the reveal tomorrow. I was going to buy a red colour car but the red on this one is an orangish bright red, which I don't like. I hope it's darker, so that I don't have to go for a regular colour option.

The red in this spy shot is the same bright red which comes in the Tiago and it doesn't look good.

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

The car looks quite appealing as far as the concept and the pre production mules are concerned. It has good proportion and a nice stance. It almost looks like that of the concept. It would be really nice to have the 1.2L turbo (in low state of tune) under it's bonnet atleast as an option. The turbo petrol with it's higher torque will make it a fun to drive car which will suit it's funky looking exterior pretty well.

Hilarious video . The car is shown for 3-4 seconds and we see loads of foreigners walking in the woods.

Looks good though. This might be an ideal second car for a household.

Car looks good and proportions are spot on. About the name, I feel HBX itself sounded better than Punch.

Liked the name (and the car)

And I just noted all those adjectives for that 'Tell me about yourself' section of my next job interview
Couldn't find the word 'dependable' though...

The lower end of the bumper looks fragile due to the design. Also note the tri-arrowish design element on the piano black block besides the Tata logo. Doesn't look good.

The videos lacks Punch (literally as Punch got screen space of only few seconds)

HBX code name sounded much better than Punch.

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Looks much better than the KUV or the Ignis to me. A lot of buyers cross shop between top variants of Tiago and base variants of Altroz. This might slot between them and attract people because of its 'SUV' stance. Tata is now playing in the 5-8 Lakh segment like Maruti in the entry level segment. If it also gets a good safety rating, it can pack a solid 'Punch'
