The tyres are nowhere near the concept shown in Auto Expo. Those chunky tyres were for concept only. These looks like the tyres which are on duty in Altroz.

This seems a lower variant with steel rim. Hope they retain the same Alloy wheel, in higher variant, used in the concept car. To me they looked very good.

Why are we still calling these pics "Spy Pics"? They are literally being taken by people sitting inside the car.

The button for drive mode selector seems to be missing. It is placed below the gear lever in the Altroz. Does that mean there are no drive modes in the HBX or the button is placed somewhere else is something that needs to be seen.

The passenger appears pretty much cramped for leg room. Isn't it unlike a Tata?

No idea why there's so much buzz, and so many expectations for a lifted tiago?

If the Tiago didnt get the Altroz turbo-petrol, neither will this. It will get the same anaemic, underpowered, unrefined, 1.2 naturally aspirated petrol engine.

Oh, and this is an Ignis competitor, so expect it to be priced accordingly. A tiago NRG replacement, essentially.

So, Hornbill would have cruise control options. Although not absolutely useful on our roads, it's still a good feature.

Based on the ALFA Arc. Definitely not just a raised Tiago. The platform has performed exceptionally well with the Altroz. High speed stability, handling, ride are much better than some competitors. This is an important car as most people today consider crossovers over hatchbacks/sedans. Really want to see how people react to this.

Also, we may not like Tata's petrol engines, but the market is completely okay with it. 75% of Altroz's sales come from the 1.2 petrol.

This is not a raised Tiago by any stretch of imagination. The Tiago, Tigor and Nexon are built on the X1 platform. These are the last Tata products on that platform. The Altroz and the upcoming Hornbill are built on the next gen ALFA platform. Yes the 1.2 L petrol engine is anemic and I hope the turbo makes its appearance, at least as an option on the higher variants of the Hornbill.

I tried to imagine an HBX with a bigger boot, an HBX plus we may call it.

Not a seven-seater, just with a bigger luggage area, with a 'station wagony' shape.

It will go beyond four metres, no doubt.

But, maybe with a Turbo engine and slightly bigger wheels, might get some takers.

The Tiago and Tigor is based on X0, that is old Indica platform.
The Bolt, Zest and Nexon is based on X1, that is Vista platform.

The platform of the next generation Tiago and Nexon will be the modular one. The Tigor may not see a new avatar. Instead there's a strong possibility of a brand new C segment sedan coming in to rival the likes of Verna and the City.

This is beautiful!

The rear (apart from the tail lamps) resembles Evoque and the longer window would make the rear a much better lit and thus comfortable space.

A functional optional variant instead of pure cosmetic change like Camo edition of Harrier. While 4WD might not be feasible in the price range, an option for turbo petrol would be great.

More images: Tata HBX spied; front fascia & dual-tone alloys

A test mule of the upcoming Tata HBX has been spotted in Trivandrum, Kerala.

While the test car is still under heavy camouflage, there are a few details worth mentioning. The HBX's styling is based on Tata's Impact 2.0 design philosophy. It features a piano black front fascia and a familiar Y-pattern grille. The car has LED daytime running lights with the main headlamp clusters positioned lower down.

At the rear, it gets hexagonal tail lamp clusters with Y-shaped brake lights. This particular test car is also equipped with fog lamps and dual-tone alloy wheels.

On the interior, the HBX gets a floating touchscreen infotainment head unit. Lower variants of the car will get a smaller screen.

The Tata HBX is likely to be offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 85 BHP and 113 Nm, while higher variants might get a turbocharged 1.2-litre motor. Transmission options might include a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT.

Thanks to Jithin for sending these images in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing them with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

I think it is high time that Tata junks its clunky AMT, or at least limit it to the Tiago. It is too jerky and unrefined for a modern automobile.

While the upcoming DCT may be too expensive for this application, they seriously need to consider developing Hyundai's iMT style automated clutch type solutions. All the convenience without the added complexity or cost. Evidently, iMT has been very well received by the market. Tata should pursue this seriously and quickly.

Never seen a testing car under Camouflage in the capital city before & this is new for me. Does Tata Motors have any R&D facility over there ?
