1. I didn't find the name too great. Keeping it HBX as it is - would have worked fine as well in fact. After a chain of good catching names - the PUNCH is quite a weird one.

4. The wheel wells!! What are the customers going to install in them? Tractor wheels? After the Indica & Vista - TML had got the wheel proportions very well in cars for a decade. This appears horribly under-tyred & that is amplified by the oversized wheel-wells.
5. On the positive side - Happy to see projector low beams + round-shaped fog lights. Big potential for the very necessary lighting upgrade with HIDs, projector fog lights etc. . Happy to see this.
6. If it has a large, fast touch-screen & a sun-roof - it will sell a lot. But large + fast touch screen is the last thing to expect from TaMo .

That's a very odd name. It does not belong with Tiago, Altroz, Nexon, Harrier and Safari. All of them have a distinct vibe to it. Punch misses that identity.

The car makes sense though. It can slot between Tiago and Nexon.

I just read a few posts above that TML was probably going to source the DCT unit from Punch and then they name the HBX as Punch. Hornbill was a much better name IMO

What’s wrong with Tata? They have such nice project names but the final name that goes into production is a weak one. They had the Tata Kite, but finally chose Zica and then Tiago. It’s the same story again. Hornbill sounds exclusive and premium, Punch is just juvenile.

Tata Sierra Mini is what i had expected. Huge miss in terms of leveraging the nameplate's sentimental values built over decades. I am sure it punches way about its weight but naming it as PUNCH is kind of funny to me.They should have learnt from the gravitas to safari exercise.

That multi-color logo shows Tata is probably targeting the youth brigade with this launch. The quirky logo, quirky design, quirky color scheme and that name will stand out from the crowd. All seems intentional and might bode well for them.

I hope the engine+transmission options are good from day 1, their Achilles heel in the past launches.

Honestly, HBX would have been a much better name than the punch.

Heck, even Zica was a good name in comparison.

As Bhpian Reinhard said, front bumper does have that spresso resemblance and the side profile as a whole gives out KUV100 vibes.

Bigger challenge to Tata will be the pricing, specially after the KO punch that Mahindra has landed with XUV700 pricing. Hoping punch to be slotted between Tiago and Altroz rather than between Altroz and nexon.

How wonderful would it be to have a Punch Sport or GT variant with Nexon's 1.5 diesel 108 bhp 250 Nm tune

I personally don't like the name. But it has a young, vibrant vibe to it. And that's what Tata are aiming I think.

Looks nice. Has some disproportionate design elements (wheel wells, pattern and width of the grill covering the radiator etc) But that's what you get when you make a sub 4m car that tall with high ground clearance, on a budget.

Overall looks like a good option for young people buying their first car ('SUV') as well as people already owning a bigger vehicle and looking for a second car (with high GC).

The information which I have received is that all the dealers are being called to Pune for its official launch.

So if this information is true by any chance the official launch will happen sometime this week itself.

Auto makers space out their reveals these days so as to let Team Bhp members vent and complain for the intervening period.

"Punch" is weird, but Altroz, ah that is a name stepped in history.

Doesn't really matter what is it called. I am 100% sure if they called it HBX ("Sounds so anonymous yaar"; "What is that a variant") or Hornbill ("It doesn't look anything like a Hornbill"; "Ever since Pradeep Bose left Tata is running out of ideas") the complaint-box would not have stayed empty.

India model nameplates had stopped making sense a long back. Creta, Seltos, Brezza, Venue (!), the Mexicans Alcazar and Hector, Kiger and then we L & K ka bhai, T & K (Taigun, Tiguan, T-Roc, Kushaq, Kodiaq, Karoq).

As a car enthusiast one often needs to do duty as the go-to consultant for extended family car purchases and when you tell the names of the newer models, they are often meet with blank stares.

My brother genuinely had no clue that there was a Hyundai called Venue on sale, lol.

Apart from the name, this looks like another winner for Tata Motors.
A good alternative to hatchbacks in the price bracket.

Hopefully, we see an EV version of it soon with the same powertrain as in Tigor and price it under 10L, this will have many takers.

The absence of front skid plates are making a world of difference. (See Image)

Naming will get used to, IMHO. See the font coloring, it looks like Poppins candy. But yeah, Polo was just a mint with hole until VW came.
