Re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Just came across update in Tata Altroz thread that the TFT display from instrument cluster has been removed altogether from Altroz.
Is that an indication that Punch will be positioned above Altroz and hence to justify the price difference they are removing features from Altroz?

I am not Marketing MBA degree holder, but I feel that they should position Punch below Altroz.

Most customers buy a Tata for a comfortable ride and safety than fuel efficiency. With all due respect to the swift owners, the build of the new Swift is worse than the Kwid. It feels as though the car will be blown away by the wind. And I can only imagine how the passengers would feel in such a car. I loved the first gen Swift (I'm not a Maruti Fan) and was an aspirational product for me, but lack of a self-centring steering and lower plastic quality was a let down even in the first gen. I can't even talk of the later Marutis. They have skimmed on safety and ride comfort for FE. As simple as that.

Re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Saw a fleet of Punch in Jaipur. Interestingly I was coming back from an Hyundai showroom after checking the i20 IMT.

Here are a few amateur clicks from my side -

No way they can position it below Altroz. The car is visibly smaller than the Altroz. I checked them side by side today since I own the Altroz myself.

Tata Punch at the new SP Cars dealership in Goa. Such a far cry from the Hexa days when we had to literally chase the erstwhile dealer to at least show us Hexa three months after it was on sale.

I like the Tigor but this was in response to someone who said 16kmpl in city which is definitely not my experience. Someone else also quoted me saying they also have never seen that and the MID figure was atleast 3-4 kmpl more than the actual tank to tank calculated mileage.

Re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Just visited the local Tata Dealer and had a chance to see the Punch in flesh.

My observations : Solid build and paint quality fit and finish better than erstwhile Tata cars. To my surprise did not find panel gaps to be uneven.

Can accomodate 5 adults easily. Driver s seating position is comfortable and commanding. The view is what will sell.

From rear also the car is unlike Kwid which we were fearing. It was standing next to a Harrier and can easily say its Baby Harrier. It has a definite presence over nexon. Both are different yet same.

Test driving it tomorrow will share feedback.

No way will they position it above altroz. And altroz still gets TFT instrument cluster, albeit only in the top most XZ+ trim. It's a trick Tata plays to push XZ(O) customers to spend 45k extra for the XZ+.

Tiago
Tigor
Punch
Altroz
Nexon
Harrier
Safari

This has to be the positioning.

To be honest, they need to position it in the level of ignis. That means the top end has to be 8-9 lakhs on road. If that's the case, Punch will become the best selling Tata soon.

PS : Tata outperforms itself with the launch of every new model when it comes to their color choices. The Punch colors are extremely classy

Re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

I today happened to check out the Punch at KHT, Domlur.

Just had 10-15 mins since the showroom was about to close.

Only initial impression.
. Vehicle looks very good.
. Interiors appear well built with clean pleasing lines.
. Driving position looks good, 6ft tall me didn't face any trouble adjusting to it, rear seat space behind me in driver seat was also good.
. Rear seat may accommodate 3 average people.
. As per salesman boot space is more then altroz, I couldn't check personally.
.Punch appears to create a segment/sub segment of its own.

With a city frendly footprint and ground clearance if priced well and niggle free it can be a sure hit.

Now all upto the ride and driving aspect which we would anyways hear about from the experts very soon.

Camera angles can be really deceptive. You seem to have dwarfed the car, especially in the 2nd and 3rd pictures!

Mod Note: Our Tata Punch Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!
