re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Man O man this is one hell of a Vehicle. This could be a segment changer if priced aptly. Just had a word with the local Tata Showroom they confirmed billing of vehicles. This season be a safety Season.

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Glad to see the Altroz instrument cluster on Punch. It's a very sad state that TATA'S premium offering Nexon gets a hideous cluster. But Punch interior looks promising and the looks of the car are amazing. Kudos to TATA for this but, they only have one issue and that is they lack good petrol engines. If TATA can provide the turbo petrol in Nexon's state of tune then this could be a bestseller. But, I know TATA will first provide this with the lethargic engine of TIAGO

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

So, I finally took some time off and visited both Tata showrooms. While Commercial Tata had 24 enquiries Frontier Tata had 30 enquiries and both of them are expecting around 8 cars each in the first batch.

Though there haven't been any official pre-booking yet for the Pre booking they are willing to take as low as Rs 5000/- because official booking hasn't started yet.

After talking to them some points that they told me are as follows
- Expected launch can be in the first week of Oct.
- Priced around Altroz
- first batch of cars including the test drive vehicle will be available from 3rd week.
- Price color options will only be confirmed after launch and even they have the same amount of information as we do.
- The Pre booking amount is fully refundable.
- Confirmed 3 color options (red, white and blue)
- The launch price will increase after the first month.

While they were very clear that these dates may vary depending upon the circumstances.
None of the specification were confirmed by the dealership.

Also we were expecting Punch to be the showpiece at IPL but Tata went with Safari Gold version instead for it.

I don't think it is 16 inches. Are they?

Two similar products with only 11 cms
(04 inches) difference in length, 01 cm in width and 03 cms in height.
It is very brave of Tata to launch this product given that it is very likely to cannibalize Nexon sales.
I must admit that it looks better than the Nexon. I hope the engine is peppy enough for the traditional Tata bulk. Hate to see a reluctant engine on a nice looking product.

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

TML would have started creating a small 'SUV'ish car to sit under the Nexon, that must have been the original design brief.

Tata being Tata would have then run off course, kept improving the design, adding bibs & bobs, a curve here, a crease there.... voila that now looks brilliant!

Next thing you know they have two cars of the same size!

I suppose the new Nexon is due before 2025 on the Alfa-Arc platform, this might move upmarket closer to the Creta.

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

I am a bit skeptical about the dimensions, especially the length- 3880mm. The HBX concept was 3840mm length wise, if I am not wrong. Moreover, I am not sure if Tata have disclosed the dimensions officially and I think whatever is available on the internet might be just speculative. The way PUNCH is being projected, I will be really surprised if it is only about 100mm lesser than the Nexon in length.

One more teaser from TAMO on Punch. I do not remember any manufacturer giving these many teasers for a product. Enough teased, they should reveal/launch it soon.

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Looks Spot on
TATA is getting better and better with its design language.

One major thing that tata needs to concentrate on now is a Better 1.2 Ltr 4 cylinder engine which can be used in Altroz/Punch. The current 1.2 3-pot engine lacks crisp and refinement.

Anyway, This will be sure to shot 4000-5000 units a month for TATA.

If TATA slots their 1.5 Diesel in PUNCH (It will be a sure shot market hit)

I don't think they will do it. It would mean game over for Nexon!

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Not sure how different it is from the Nexon. Both look strikingly same! If this is priced around 8L to 10L, it will be a killer. Will directly beat competition from i20 & Baleno well.

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

Its a handsome car, looks proportionate from most of the angles. as far as TATA goes they price their vehicles right so this should see some diverted buyers from I20 and balenos. also a great choice for first time car buyers.

Oh I think you forgot the VW Twins- Kushaq and Taigun . Tata's are still behind the sneak peaks when compared to them.

The car looks good in proportion and would eat into the 6-9L segment car sales for sure. Kudos to Tata

re: The Tata Punch (aka Hornbill) Compact SUV

VW takes an eternity to launch cars (from concept to production) such that the competitors are always 2 or 3 generations ahead in the same segment by the time the finished product hits the floors. TATA is far ahead in terms of that. They took some time with the Nexon and the Harrier, thats understandable. But the flow of launches and updates after that is at a commendable pace. Iam sure they wont waste anytime with the Punch either.
