re: The Hyundai Venue SUV (aka Carlino)

This looks to be surely a Brezza/Ecosport competitor. I am guessing it would use the 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol as a turbocharged petrol would be costly to produce and maintain. Given our current craze for SUV'ish cars and Creta's pricing and sales numbers, it would surely be priced at a premium when compared to its competitors. Hope it comes with a CVT/torque converter; I don't see an AMT coming in a car of this segment from Hyundai.

Hyundai STYX is the name for Carlino based SUV.

Hyundai Automotive South Africa (HASA ) will launch Hyundai’s small SUV in South Africa by June next year.

The Styx will be made in India and will be built on the Accent platform.

It will compete with the popular Ford EcoSport.

They might want to review that name - In Greek mythology, Styx is the river between the Earth and underworld. The adjective stygian may refer to anything that is dark and murky.

- Everything related to (planet?) Pluto has connections to the underworld, including all of it's satellites - namely Nix, Hydra, Charon, Kerberos & Styx.

Oh this is really a disappointment. I was expecting something similar in profile to the concept that was shown in the auto expo. This looks like a plastic surgery on the Creta

If not the basics in terms of platform build, SUV's should be built a little tall IMO. Not sure if that is the trend but to make SUV's look sleek (read sloping roof) the OEM's are compromising on height, width and length. SUV's should have a good road presence.

Re: Kia SP Concept-based SUV could be called Tusker or Trazor

Thanks to Avirup Basu for sending these images in. Heartfelt gratitude for sharing it with other enthusiasts via this Team-BHP page!

Hyundai's upcoming sub-4 meter SUV has been spotted testing once again. The compact SUV is based on the Carlino Concept, which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.

From the side, the camouflaged test mule looks similar in design to the Hyundai Creta. At the front, it appears to have a chrome grille flanked by rectangular headlamps. The SUV is equipped with silver roof rails and has ORVMs with integrated turn signals. Earlier this year, a test mule was seen sporting dual-tone alloy wheels. However, this particular test vehicle is riding on steel wheels with wheel caps.

While details about the powertrains are scarce, media reports suggest that Hyundai's new compact SUV could be offered with a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel engine option paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. With this SUV, Hyundai will be aiming to take on other sub-4 meter SUVs such as the Ford EcoSport, Honda WR-V, Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon.

The wheels look very much similar to the alloy wheels on sub 4m baby Creta under test.

I have the same feeling.
The images above match the rendering of the Baby Creta by Autocar & IndianAutosBlog.

Although there's mention of Tiger Nose Grille, but from the images couldn't make out any.
On the contrary, I could see the silver'ish grille (2 rows of silver line reflecting due to the Verna brake lamp illumination. images for reference purpose)
Also the side profile is so Creta'esque

re: The Hyundai Venue SUV (aka Carlino)

The test mule was erroneously reported to be a Kia Trezor. It is actually Hyundai's upcoming sub-4 meter SUV. The news article and forum post have been corrected accordingly and all forum posts moved to the correct thread.

Hyundai is going to do what Honda did with the City and Amaze!

The Creta would probably lose its entry level variants, start from about 14.5 Lakhs on road and go all the way to 19! And with the new Creta due in 2021, probably based on the KIA SP concept, the Creta is going to be positioned premium. And the Carlino takes up that spot, may occupy that 10-13 lakh territory.

Another theory floating around is that the next Gen Creta might even be a 7 seater, but I highly doubt it since the USP of the Creta is its right size and appeal to urban consumers who ideally upgrade from B and C segments.

It all depends on pricing. Hyundai consistently prices their cars higher. This is a very price-sensitive segment, and a few tens of thousands up or down can tilt things in your favor or against you.

re: The Hyundai Venue SUV (aka Carlino)

Looks interesting. The shrunken Creta look with the long bonnet might polarize opinion. I'm guessing the 1.4 diesel will be under the hood. Any news on a new petrol engine?

End of the road for the i20 active?

I think Hyundai will be smart with pricing. Honda and Toyota have priced the CRV and Yaris absurdly. Hyundai Creta is expensive, but that is because of lack of good competition.
