Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

How come we don't know the KW and KWh specs on this car yet? Calling on the "scoopers" to activate their sources and get a peek into this information...

I absolutely love the "Dabba" looks of this car. To be a good city car for me (others might have different requirements), it needs to fulfill these "modest" requirements:
- Range >=150 kms range with AC
- Charge time <= 8 hrs: Quick charge capability would be a plus
- Decent acceleration (0-60 in 5s) and top speed (120 kmph) - to make it usable for roads like NICE and BETL.

Cheers!

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

The car becoming higher is a given. The underfloor power packs see to it. I also expect shorter bonnets (I guess it is an EV and not a hybrid), What is critical is the expected range/time between recharges, esp in our summer, and the charging time/requirements. One must accept that this is a 'test mule', and the first Maruti EV may (and likely to) be quite different. Also, the price point for the car. I expect it to be costlier but remember the running costs will be far lower in terms of both 'fuel' and maintenance. I think one can say that power availability for charging in not a big issue.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

Why do people refer to it as a "maruti" and not a "suzuki"?

Good move though. Are the cars stationed at different places and tested locally on all terrains and weather conditions or are they just driven through a stretch?

How mechatronically attuned are the drivers testing these vehicles? Can they identify issues to give critical feedback to the R&D?

If the team-bhp mods get a chance, they could suggest to the manufacturers on dropping off their test cars to some of the team-bhp members for say 3-6 months to get critical feedback with some spirited driving and testing!

OT - Have seen a Mahindra electric car (E-verito is what they call it) getting tested near the KR Puram bridge in B'lore. Just didn't have the enthusiasm to take a snapshot!

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

Spotted the EV on Aarey road, Mumbai today morning.
2 vehicles back to back pretty rashly driven.
Could take only rear view pictures in the brief moment where I was tailing them.

Small but sharp tail lights. Tall vertical spacing between the Stop light and Tail lights.

There was a black bulging undercarriage part under the rear seat. The bulge gave an impression of reduced ground clearance.

Would this be the battery bank?

Caught one testing in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. Looks a little boxy but was doing about 50 KMPH when I crossed it. Which tyre is being used for this prototype? It's not decipherable from the pictures.

Spotted the Maruti electric test vehicle today morning at JVLR near IIT Powai. I must say, it looks quite nice.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

Looking at the number plate, there seems to be many of these cars all over the country. When it comes to production, I guess it will be in current Wagon-R clothes and not in this boxy body ?

They could have used a different car and more modern looking body. Not sure if the platform could be based on HEARTECT. That could have enabled multiple possibilities.

The EV Wagon-R running in India is also on Heartect technology. It is the platform width that is narrower in this car. Basic platform design is very similar.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

Maruti Suzuki's upcoming WagonR EV is rumoured to have a 200km range and will be priced under ₹ 7.5 L ( OTR, with all subsides included)

Quote:
The new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV is said to be spacious and could have different styling as compared to the standard petrol-powered version. Maruti Suzuki is already extensively testing the electric Wagon R around the country although the cars aren’t branded as such. The Wagon R EV will also come packed with the latest infotainment package such as a touchscreen infotainment with the updated user interface and smartphone connectivity options like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

They will be lucky if that contraption that they call a car gives a 100 km / charge.

Can you please elaborate on this? I mean the car is still in testing phase! Want to know how you arrived at this , when the car is not released yet.
