Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India-dmeouaguyaaftp9.jpg

Quote:
The vehicle in images is based on the platform of a an existing vehicle by Suzuki Motor Corporation but has been manufactured in India at the company's Gurgaon plant.

The battery pack will be located at the rear and one can see in the images that the vehicle has a low-loading lip for the boot, which could house the lithium-ion battery pack in the underside.

It should be noted that the vehicle in these images is a prototype and the final vehicle would not look the same but will be based on this prototype so expect similarities

Re: The next-gen 2017 Suzuki WagonR

Just read that Wagon R EV has made a global debut in New Delhi.
Quote:
Maruti Suzuki is on the verge of having an expansion phase as the leading automaker in the country has bright plans for the near future and beyond. The Indian auto industry has celebrated success of the established players over the decades as brand name and unshakable service integrity have carried a whole lot importance.

Quote:
The exterior of the prototype EV largely resembles the latest generation Wagon R in its home market of Japan. It boasts additional stickering on the body panels indicating that it’s an “Electric Vehicle”. The JDM-spec Wagon R features same signature silhouette with prominent dual-part front grille and headlamp cluster, unusually positioned tail lamps at the bumper, wider air intake area, etc.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

More details of the Wagon R EV,

- Speculated to have an electric range of 200-220 kms per charge

-The EV displayed at the MOVE Sumit was a prototype that will be used by the company to gain customer inputs and technical expertise

- Electric Maruti Suzuki car that was showcased also hinted a few design cues of the all-new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R that is scheduled for Indian launch in February 2019.

- Electric Maruti Suzuki Wagon R did feature an infotainment system and the dashboard looked a lot like Maruti Suzuki Ignis.

- Expect the EV to be priced at around Rs 10 lakh mark ( initial batch, to come down basis increased demand)

These testings are being carried out in line with the company's announcement, made in September, to conduct nation-wide field testing of 50 prototype Electric Vehicles.

Press release:
Quote:
The Electric Vehicles have been developed exclusively by Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan and built at Maruti Suzuki, Gurugram facility, as our commitment to Make in India. This extensive real-life usage of the vehicles in multiple terrains and climatic conditions will help the company get valuable insights that will help in validation and successful launch of Electric Vehicle technology in India

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

I might be against the tide here, but that WagonR electric looks so damn cool. Slap on a nice set of alloys and its the perfect EV car for our roads.

Seriously as a daily driver for work commute and errands, I would absolutely not mind driving that if the range is decent above 200kms.

The second car can always be some nice Euro luxo car.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

Spotted this Maruti Suzuki EV today morning near Cyber Hub - Gurgaon. The vehicle was not camouflaged at all. It appeared to be a bigger version of the Wagon R though the back was different as evident in the picture.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

The EV looks really impressive. We need to replace our ageing Swift diesel that has served us well for the last 7 years clocking in excess of 1L kms. With time, the primary duties are now managed by the SCross 1.6 diesel and the Swift barely sees 400km a month. With time, it has some heavy cost maintenance items due for replacement and I feel we'll just get it fixed for what is needed in anticipation of replacing it with an affordable hatch. Did a test drive of the Ignis and Baleno over the weekend and felt it doesn't make sense to plonk in another 7 odd lakhs on a replacement.

But, if this EV has a healthy range and is reliable, it will make the perfect city run around car for us. The highway duties can be managed by our bigger car.

Above 200km with near full time AC usage. Also, the charging time should be decent. 12 plus hours is not acceptable. Also, there should be a speed boost option, say 15 minutes to 50%.

Re: Maruti starts fleet testing of Electric Vehicles in India

I hope they change the rear of the Wagon-R. With closely packed vehicles in our urban environment, those tail lights are almost useless.
Also, is this testing continuation of their testing elsewhere ? I hope they have done enough testing abroad already so that we can see them here at the earliest.
