The third generation BMW Z4 has been caught testing in India, just weeks after its global unveiling. According to a media report, BMW is expected to offer two variants of the Z4 in India - a top-spec M40i and a lower variant which could be the sDrive20i or the sDrive30i.



The third generation BMW Z4 was unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August 2018. The car is based on the CLAR platform. The new model has a front-engine rear-wheel drive layout with a 50:50 weight distribution.

In terms of styling, the new Z4 has a re-profiled kidney grille flanked by sweptback headlamps and L-shaped tail lights. The M40i variant gets an aggressive front bumper with large air intakes, optional 19-inch wheels and rectangular exhausts. The interior features a new dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment system, 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel and a digital instrument cluster.

The M40i variant uses a 3.0-litre, twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder engine which produces 335 BHP and 500 Nm of torque. The sDrive20i and sDrive30i variants come with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder twin-turbo engine that delivers 194 BHP / 320 Nm and 255 BHP / 400 Nm respectively. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is offered as standard.

I wonder if they can do what Porsche did with the 718 Cayman and Boxster and only bring in the cheaper variants to avoid the increased duty's. That would also allow them to price it significantly below the 718's I think.

LOL at the scoop . At best, it is an image shared by BMW itself as part of a PR exercise or a favour. Car has been spotted elsewhere (BMW's Indian factory?) and the background has been changed.

Ugh, and mainstream media wonders why it's viewership is dying. I'm not familiar with how the relationship dynamic works with auto journos and manufacturers in developed countries but nowadays magazines literally look the same as PR handouts by car makers.

It is expected to cost 98 or 99 lacs ex factory. I consider it too expensive for our market. Let's see how people react to it. Wish there were more cheaper options available for people with budgets of 20-30-40 lacs .

2019 BMW Z4 Roadster Launched In India at ₹ 64.9 Lakh.

BMW India has launched the new 2019 BMW Z4 roadster in India at ₹ 64.9 lakh for the base sDrive20i variant.

The top-spec M40i costs ₹ 78.9 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom India for the CBU.

Pic has been clicked in Pune. A facelifted 7-Series, a X7 and a low-slung car under covers were also spotted. However, no pics of the other cars.

The low-slung car under covers is most likely a M850 Coupe.

Too expensive IMO. Especially the Z4 M40i - heck, a kitted out M2 Competition would be in a similar ball park, and a lot more quicker.

As for the base sDrive 20i Variant: WHY!? the 30i tune isn't all that more expensive, and someone buying a premium sports car would prefer the 30i badging on the trunk for a little bit more!

I will say, competitive if we consider CBU duties. I believe, its loaded better then standard M2.

Agree, If I am not mistaken, Duties are based on the Engine capacities and not HP so wonder why have they not got the 30, must be something to do with allocation perhaps.

It looks BMW is targeting Boxer customer and has kept the optional extras in the ballpark of Porsche Not sure if this is going to work with BMW though like after the initial euphoria with M2 sales, today you can get one with usual BMW discounts.
