Suzuki Swift RS spotted in India

The Suzuki Swift RS has been spotted in India. The car was snapped while being transported on a flat-bed.

The Swift RS looks similar to the current generation Swift barring a few details. It gets slightly sportier bumpers, side skirts and red highlights on the front grille as well as larger wheels. The test mule is sporting different style alloy wheels and has disc brakes on both axles.

In India, Maruti Suzuki is rumoured to offer the Swift RS with a 1.0-litre Boosterjet engine from the Baleno RS. This turbocharged petrol engine produces 101 BHP @ 5,500 rpm and peak torque of 150 Nm @ 1,700-4,500 rpm. On the Baleno RS, this engine is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Swift RS is likely to be positioned below the Baleno RS and could rival the upcoming Tiago JTP. There is no word yet from Maruti regarding the launch of the Swift RS in India.

What's with the alternate alloys. The front ones are the dzire zxi alloys, while the rear ones are from the international swift.

Weren't the rear alloys seen on the first gen S-Cross?

Nope, these are different. The ones on the first gen s-cross were horrible, like plastic wheel caps. Just a little bit of resemblance.

Re: Suzuki Swift RS spotted in India

What's happening with Black Maruti cars?

I had spotted the mysterious black Baleno several times before the RS launched. I thought it'd be the RS and it'd get the exclusive black paint. But it didn't. Even after the RS, I've seen the Black Baleno a few times in Delhi and Gurgaon.

I think the Swift will repeat that story. Besides, I don't see the sporty bumpers and side skirts of the RS. Am I missing something here?

Lemme throw some spaghetti:

The Black color is certainly for something else. Perhaps to test some hybrid stuff. Because if you want to place a lithium-ion battery pack inside the cabin, you need to see how it handles the heat from a safety and durability perspective. And there's no better way to do that than in a black car.

The G480 code is on a Red Swift (previous gen). That one is still doing rounds between the Gurgaon and Manesar plants. But, it's probably testing something else.

I too have seen the same car doing the rounds around Gurgaon.

Once around 2 weeks back near Dharuhera, while it was following an upcoming Wagon R and once near Palam area in Gurgaon. Never had an idea that this G482 is an RS!

I doubt they'll launch it anywhere in the price ballpark being mentioned in that article. It will definitely not be cheaper than the regular Swift variants, a decent chunk above if anything.

The 1.0 Boosterjet has a good mid-range, but isn't exactly a performance motor. The 1.4 would've been a hoot but then we're second-class citizens in Suzuki's world so gotta make do with what we're bestowed with.
