I don't expect to see it any time in the near future. We might get an Alto or WagonR with a 660 cc engine instead.

This is one good looking car. How can it be inexpensive? The Nano looks really cheap in front of this. If it even replaces the 800, it would be a very good buy.

This model cannot be made for 1lak. Maruti would like to comeout of the cheap car manufacturer image . Also you dont make a great margin if you make 1Lak car. This can replace Alto or 800 etc.

I don't think Maruti should be getting into the 1L car war right now. They're market leaders in most high volume segments already. They need to up their image & introduce the Kizashi rather than getting preoccupied in this new 1L car segment. We all appreciate what the Tatas have done & i doubt anything will be done in the same manner, just as well, anytime soon.
The cervo doesn't look like a car which will be produced even for less then 2L. Maruti has already started phasing out the M800 in certain cities to make its Alto the cheapest offering they have.

M 800 will need a replacement as maruti will fight to defend their already falling market share. But like what a few said, Alto or Wagon R will be a better option in a new avatar rather than replacing with a whole new car. Lower costs. 650-800cc Wagon R anyone?

Would Cervo have Automatic gear?

I keep reading in blogs that Cervo would be lauched in June 2010 in the sub-two lakhs category, and that automatic gear would be available.
I am hunting for Used Santro Automatic now, do you think it's worth the wait?

I expect the Maruti to come up with the following line-up in the near future:

Alto with 660CC engine @ 1.5L to take-on Nano.
Cervo with 1000CC KB series engine @ 2.5L to take-over the current Alto space .
Cervo with 1200CC K12M (from Ritz) engine @ 3.2L to take-on i10.
Wagon-R with 1200CC G series (from Eeco) engine @ 3.0L for the more-on-space-less-on-cost people.
Estilo with 1000CC KB series engine @ 3.0L for the mileage-savvy people.
Ritz with 1200CC K12M engine @ 3.5L - the super value pack.
Swift with 1200CC K12M engine @ 4.0L - let it enjoy the current leader position.
New bigger better Swift with a new 1400CC K series engine @ 5.0L - for the enthusiasts, and to take on i20, Punto and Polo.

Going by the not-so-rosy relationship between MSIL and A/T, and the cervo A/T being a mere speculation, I suggest you continue your search for a good santro A/T.

Nice line-up there, but 660cc Alto doesn't seem a possibility. Also I doubt if it will be possible to shoehorn the K12M into the Cervo's relatively small engine bay.

Sub 800cc Cervo looks most likely to be a replacement for ageing Alto.

The F8D motor is playing spoil sport with Maruti's plans to introduce a 660 cc motor because they cannot build a car with a 660cc engine at sell it below the cost of an 800 profitably. Once they pull the plug on the 800, the 660cc motor should make its appearance very soon and the current Alto is the top contender for the post. The Cervo, if at all makes it to our shores, would probably slot in where the current Alto sits, or slightly higher. I don't think they will be able to sell the Cervo at the Maruti 800's price point even with a 660 cc engine, unless they get used dyes from Japan or our govt intoduces one more lower tax slab for vehicles with engine capacity below 700 cc.

There was a news some times back that this Suzuki Twin will come to India.

It will be better for Maruti to bring this for the following reasons:

1. As a Nano competitor
2. For those who do daily city riding with 1 or 2 passengers only.
3. As a second car for those who own a sedan / SUV for easy day-to-day shopping and city riding.

As wikipedia states, the production of this car stopped at 2005 in Japan.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...car-co-uk.html

I don't know where Indian Media got it's news from to say Suzuki Cervo will be Nano compitetor. Just speculation. Can we believe our media.

This thread does not need to remain open.

I agree, nobody can compete Tata in terms of value for money. If they can't make Maruti 800 as cheaper as Nano then there is almost no chance that a new car will be priced to compete Nano.
