Default Re: Hyundai Grand i10 Nios based sedan

The third picture seems to be clicked somewhere in Europe. Others with the red TN plate are obv near Chennai it seems.

I like the rear styling, looks like they are going to mimic the styling of the facelift Elantra for this new sedan.

A new three-box version based on Grand i10 Nios- Hyundai Xcent sped testing again.

The license plate has also been moved down to the rear bumper

All New 2020 Hyundai Xcent engine and transmission options will be similar to what the company has offered in Grand i10 Nios – 1.2-liter petrol engine and 1.2-liter diesel motor with both compliant with BS-VI emission norms. In terms of output, the petrol engine will produce 81bhp/114Nm while diesel is good for 74bhp/190Nm. Both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearboxes will be on offer in both petrol and diesel variants of the car. Hyundai will probably not stop the production of current generation Xcent although its sales will only be limited to the commercial market once its replacement debut in the Indian market

2020 Hyundai Xcent Nios spied – Larger touchscreen, leather seats, the top-end variant gets leather seats.

Quote:
The black dashboard is carried forward from the newly launched Nios but seats get plush leather upholstery. Another noticeable difference is that the sedan receives adjustable head restraints for the rear bench.

I am not sure if it makes any sense to deny adjustable headrest for front passengers, which might be deal breaker for many people.

The latest spy images of the second generation Hyundai Xcent suggest that the car could be offered with a dual-tone exterior.

The new Xcent is expected to get a front fascia similar to the Grand i10 NIOS. At the rear, it has a boot with new LED tail lights. The test car also has blacked-out B and C-pillars, ORVMs painted in body colour, shark fin antenna and a rear view camera.

The Xcent is expected to be powered by the same engines as the Grand i10 Nios - a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm @ 4,000 rpm and a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine producing 74 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm @ 1,750-2,250 rpm.

Not looking good so far. Looks like the Xcent will remain a tall compact sedan, unlike the new DZire and Amaze.

The windowline on the rear-door and the way it comes up towards the C-pillar just doesn't suit a sedan!

So true. And its very unpleasant to sit in those back seats due to that line. The door edge actually comes at the level of the eye for the shorter folk & window starts above that. Not too enjoyable to sit with a plastic slab besides your cheek!

It will be a huge turn off for potential personal buyers - exactly as it was for the previous gen. And just this 1 aspect might relegate the car to UBER/OLA duty like the previous generation ended up quickly. Such a window line is "acceptable" in a short hatchback to some extent. Simply not welcome in what's trying to be a sedan of any sorts. What is happening to Hyundai design teams since last year...

Default Hyundai Aura sedan is name of new gen Xcent – Official teaser video

Quote:
In the past few months, a sub 4 meter sedan from Hyundai has been on test. Spotted multiple times, it was believed to be the new generation Xcent, as it was a sub 4 meter sedan. Today, Hyundai India has shared first official teaser video of their new upcoming sedan, and it confirms the name – it is called Hyundai Aura sedan.

Just like Grand i10 new generation is called NIOS, Hyundai is calling the new generation Xcent Aura. All new 2020 Hyundai Aura is expected to be launched in the coming weeks. From the spy shots it can be noted that the 2020 Hyundai Aura will borrow a great deal from the recently launched Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS compact hatchback.

2020 Aura sedan is expected to receive leather wrapped steering wheel, bolstered seats in the front with convex shaped headrests and rear seats with added back and thigh support. Below is the first teaser video of the new gen Hyundai Xcent, which is called Hyundai Aura.

If the Aura is replacing the Xcent, that's a good choice in my opinion.

Firstly, Aura sounds and fits in very well with the Verna, Elantra, Sonata and Azera to complete Hyundai's sedan line-up. That said, the moniker could've been better.

Secondly, all the Xcent managed to do was spoil the good image and brand recall the Accent had in India. It was a good offering, no doubt, but Maruti-Suzuki and Honda threw it out of the park with the new Dzire and Amaze that other compact sedans had no choice but to bow down. The odd proportions (tall and narrow) and the polarizing face-lift didn't help matters either.

Let's see if Hyundai does enough to divert the attention from those two!

The NIOS based sub4m sedan appears to be launching with "AURA" nameplate.

Looks like the XCENT badge will continue with current gen for cab duties.

Hyundai tried to cash in on the Accent legacy by calling the compact sedan the X-Cent. Looks like it hasn't worked out. If Hyundai manages to up the ante in the ride and handling department then they could very well take the fight to Maruti's doorstep. The X-Cent was never lacking in interior space and quality which Hyundai must have improved with the Aura.

Also knowing how Hyundai is equipping its newer cars, I wouldn't be surprised if they top the class as far as equipment list is concerned. Having the Venue's 1.0 ltr turbo petrol would be sweet too.

It's named Aura for three reasons:

- Hyundai itself isn't entirely happy with the Xcent's sales levels. They are good, but nowhere near what Hyundai thought (or close to the Dzire).

- "Xcent" has more or less become an Uber / Ola brand.

- The Xcent might continue to be sold to the taxi segment, while the Aura will target the personal segment.

I don't think that will happen. The Aura will still have to be priced far lower than the Venue. And even if they put a 3.0 V6 in there, its not going to sell as much as the DZire.

So putting a USP engine from Venue into what is a budget notch-back that may soon flop (always a possibility in the segment that has the DZire), would work in devaluing the Venue's credentials I think.

As reported by the Autocar India article, Hyundai Xcent to be sold alongside new Aura compact sedan.
  • Hyundai has confirmed that it won’t retain the Xcent name for its all-new compact sedan. Instead, this new-gen compact sedan has been named the Hyundai Aura, and is set to be launched in the coming months. But while the Aura is the successor to the Xcent in Hyundai’s line-up, the Xcent itself isn’t going anywhere.
  • Hyundai knows the Xcent is a hit with fleet operators, and doesn’t want its new compact sedan to be saddled with the same image of being a ‘cab’. That’s the main reason for the birth of the Aura nameplate, but Hyundai will keep the Xcent alive, and is expected to offer it in lower-spec trims for commercial-use buyers only.
  • What this means is that the Xcent will receive a significant update in 2020. Not only will its engines be upgraded to meet BS6 emission norms, but the Xcent will also be updated to meet the pedestrian protection norms that come into effect from October 2020. Meeting the pedestrian protection norms will entail sheet-metal changes, which will give Hyundai the opportunity to facelift the Xcent for a second time in six years since its launch.
  • One key reason for Hyundai to keep the Xcent going is the fact that, starting April 2020, there will be no diesel-engined Maruti Suzuki Dzire available, and Hyundai can have that space in the fleet market all to itself. And with Hyundai investing a fair deal into it, the Xcent is likely to continue for quite some time to come.

There are rumors about the Grand i10 Nios getting the Venue's turbo petrol, so the possibility of the Aura getting it cannot be completely ruled out. Also since the Dzire is going to lose its diesel engine next year,at least for the time being,Hyundai can have that market all to itself. Also Hyundai should learn from Honda and launch the diesel-auto combo which only the Amaze currently offers.

And I don't quite understand your point regarding the devaluation of Venue's credentials. Even if the Aura turbo petrol doesn't sell as much as Hyundai wants it to, there won't be any impact on the credentials of the Venue turbo petrol.
