re: Hyundai Aura (2nd-gen Hyundai Xcent). Edit: Launched at 5.8 lakhs

Showed pictures to a few non-BHPian current and prospective compact sedan owners.

Responses varied from 'Ugh!' to 'Looks great!' to 'I'll buy if the cabin is nice'.

Safe to say aesthetic choices are not uniform, and some outright don't care as long as the product meets their other needs & feature must-haves.

So no top-end variant on either AMT or the turbo petrol?

Well, it's Hyundai so nothing new there for the AMT. I guess they will introduce the true top end variant after some time.

But the turbo petrol would have been an unique engine in this segment. To see that you can't have the top end with that kind of sucks. Really appreciate Tata basing the JTP off the xz+variants here.

re: Hyundai Aura (2nd-gen Hyundai Xcent). Edit: Launched at 5.8 lakhs

Anyone know why Hyundai flips between using the Asta/Sportz/Magana and S/SX/SX(O) naming? I believe the Nios/i10/i20 used the Asta naming scheme.

Also no Top end Auto and to make it worse color choices change based on Variants? Who comes up with these ideas?

They reserve the E,S,SX variant names for the sedans and crossovers.

The hatchbacks get the Era, D-lite, Magna, Sportz and Asta variants.

The funny part is even the i20 and i20 Active have different variant names because the i20 is a hatchback and the Active is a crossover.

The story isn't over yet because the Tucson's variants are called GL, GL(O) and GLS.

If you haven't pulled your hair out already, the Kona electric's variant is called Premium. (That's the only variant available though)

I'm sure inside Hyundai's offices, all of this makes perfect sense.

Not really, the horrible alloys and that Dolphin Honda City-like rear don’t gel with the front at all. IMHO, Vintage Brown is the only decent colour for this car as it hides most of the ugly creases. But for some reason, every colour makes it seem like the C-pillar is a soft top.

re: Hyundai Aura (2nd-gen Hyundai Xcent). Edit: Launched at 5.8 lakhs

This is a sinking ship.. once the new i20 comes out with the DCT Turbo engine people won't remember this exists.

What an over-designed vehicle, compared to this the first gen Xcent was great, its true destiny of being a cabbies delight. This Aura is too blinding to even behold.

# Use one pair of DRL, the double boomerang DRL's accentuate the cascade grill effect and looks bad.

# Remove all chrome from the back.. looks hideously aftermarket.

# Change the alloys, something family friendly and conventional, the car itself isnt sporty so why look the part?

# Body coloured C pillar would be nice.

If they can do all the 4 simple modifications, they might sell a few thousand to actual buyers instead of having to sell stripped down versions to cabbies later. The sub 4m sedan money minting time is over, let's leave that to Maruti only.

re: Hyundai Aura (2nd-gen Hyundai Xcent). Edit: Launched at 5.8 lakhs

From the Hyundai Website:

"Hyundai AURA has been tested and evaluated across India over 7,500 kms to assess its reliability and durability on different powertrain configurations and diverse road and climate conditions".
Link: https://www.hyundai.com/in/en/find-a...ighlights.html

Really?? Testing a vehicle for 7,500 Kms is supposed to inspire confidence?
