Post price hike, the base model petrol variant would cost about Rs 6.25 lakh, the mid-range Rs 6.43 lakh and top-end variant Rs 7.01 lakh.
The diesel CRDi variant would now be coming at a price tag of Rs 7.45 lakh. had launched the model in September last year with an introductory price ranging between Rs 6.21 lakh and Rs 7.35 lakh across all variants.Source : sify.com (1/8/2007)

My friend canceled booking for Verna since,
  • They hiked the prices by 10,000.
  • They failed to deliver the vehicle on time and he was put on waitlist for more than 3 weeks.
  • For optional ABS and a specific color (don't remember which), they said it takes more than a month to get ordered.

There was so much hype for Verna before its release but I hardly find any Verna's in my region. It has'nt clicked.

Getz failed to click
Accent now only on order
Verna trying to find numbers
Elantra bombed
Sonata embera... (well... Was it launched??? i havent seen any)
Tucson... seen one...
Terracan... (that too seen one... Nothing to buy for at that price)

I dont think verna flopped, or rather we are too early to make such a statement. I remember, when fiesta was launched..I could hardly see any of them around..but after some time they started pouring in.
I see quite a lot of verna's on the road off late.

Well, I for one can see a large number of Vernas around in Delhi. They are selling very well here and there is a waiting for them. Hyundai cars always start selling a while after the launch as they sell less on hype and more from word of mouth.

If a car is a flop, would they:

1. Hike the price

and

2. Put prospective customers on a waiting list?

Or are they stuck for engines just like the Accent CRDi after it was launched?

Is this engine not their own? As against the CRDi which was designed and manufactured by AVL or DC (I forget) and was in short supply from source?

Ok...

But... Still... the sales havent been to company expectations...

And they were desperatley depending on that deisel engine (i feel way better than fiesta) to bring in the numbers...

The earlier engine was from Detroit Diesel.

Their 2nd gen CRDi engines come from Namyang in Korea.

Crazy, can you please give me some insight on what these "company expectations" are? You seem to have insight into this.

On Dec 29th I went to take delivery of Verna and same day there were 12 others too waiting for their cars to be delivered. I am talking about a small town Karnal. And to my surprise 10 out of 12 ppl were from a yet another smaller town named Sonepat. Sonepat is 40 Kms from Delhi and 90 Kms from Karnal. So I asked them why they came a long way to buy. All of them said Verna was sold out in Delhi!!!

.....And btw..dont call it a price hike...its just that the introductory “low price” was revised. The dealer told me that company had a price projection of 7.55 but due to dealers resistance at that price Hyundai came up with a price of 7.35 and dealers were given a margin of 14k per car. Now the margin is around 20k after price revision
