Re: Skoda Kodiaq Laurin & Klement launched at Rs. 35.99 lakh

Skoda India missed the opportunity to launch the L&K variant of the Kodiaq with the 174 hp tune (As seen on Superb Diesel).

Hope they dont mess up the Kodiaq RS (If they launch here)

Skoda clearly lost an opportunity to get in more power. Surprising!!

At 36L ex showroom price, it is very very expensive!

Re: Skoda Kodiaq Laurin & Klement launched at Rs. 35.99 lakh

They clearly missed the opportunity to get the higher output engine from the Superb or even a petrol option. For such little difference in features, there seems no point in keeping 2 variants. The style is already discounted on the website and I think it would be discontinued shortly.
The Main USP of this variant has to be the digital Instrument cluster and 360 degree camera.

Btw, found this this very nice review/story style video that Powerdrift does every few weeks.

Amazing car, but simply overpriced. The Kodiaq sells for about 41 lakhs on the road in Bombay; this one would be 43.5ish. That's a lot of money.

Skoda could have done two things differently:

1. Given the L&K's engine the higher tune.

2. Launched a lower FWD variant which would really boost its sales. I've heard of some people going for the Tiguan over the Kodiaq simply because the Tiguan Comfortline (which is decently equipped) costs a whopping 8 lakhs lesser than the only Kodiaq variant that was available.

Cannot agree more! I am one of the buyers who picked up the Tiguan over the Kodiaq and for several reasons:
1) Pricing - the highline Tiguan post discounts worked out to be INR 6L cheaper than the Kodiaq. For this 6 lakh the only feature I truly missed is the Canton sound system.
Yes, the Kodiaq is slightly bigger which would have been an advantage for rear legroom sakes but the Tiguan with it's nicer interiors and driving mannerisms just seemed to work for our family.

However, if the Kodiaq came with more power, L&K features at it's existing price point - it would have been a no brainer for us to splurge the extra amount.

However, the L&K is a welcome addition. Ideally Skoda should replace the Style variant with a more basic entry level version to compete with the Tiguan HL in terms of pricing - get rid of AWD, delete some features such as the Canton system, throw in 17" alloys (instead of 18") and drop the price by a good 3-4L compared to the Style. As long as the important feel-good features are there - customers will be happy.
No point keeping two variants so closely priced (5-7% apart) because in this segment a customer can easily jump and buy the L&K with a slight stretch.

Instead a 'Corporate' edition with some minuses at 5L cheaper will see the CR-V diesel, Tucson FL, and of course the Tiguan sweating.

I don't think I remember any of the L&K variants starting from the first gen Octavia being differentiated in engine options. It always used to be a trim and features package.

Absolutely true. 😊

What I meant was that Skoda could have easily added the same engine tune as in Superb / Passat, given the fact that so much has been criticised about the lack of power.

VW family has done this before too. 6th generation Jetta was launched in 2011 with a lower spec engine and later on, I think in 2012, the specs were increased.

Re: Skoda Kodiaq Laurin & Klement launched at Rs. 35.99 lakh

Kodiaq's style variant is already overpriced and now the L&K takes it to further heights. Considering the terrible after sales service from Skoda and attitude of their dealerships as mentioned by fellow members on our forum, I would never ever advise anyone to invest 40L on a Skoda car.

In case someone take the risk and still try to think about Kodiaq there are multiple reasons for rejection:

1. Volkswagen Tiguan - Almost similar car with 5 seats and saving of 6L.
2. X1/Q3/GLA - Far better in brand value
3. Fortuner/Endeavour - Robust full size SUV's
4. Superb/Passat/Ocatavia vRS - Although not a SUV segment but still one can't ignore the 174/227 bhp engines in comparison to 148 bhp of Kodiaq.

Till the karoq comes here. They should sell a 5 seater version of the Kodiaq at a Tiguan like price. Easy to do. AND frankly give it the Superb Engine Power.

Re: Skoda Kodiaq Laurin & Klement launched at Rs. 35.99 lakh

Demand for Kodiaq is still high in Europe and China markets and Skoda is under no pressure to ship more kits to India or sell higher numbers here, unless they cam make better margins than what they can get by making and selling a car with the same kit in Europe. This is why we will not see lower stripped down variants here for a while.

That being totally true is also short sighted on the part of Skoda.

It has really not made any genuine effort to come up with killer product and service offerings to garner a greater share of what is potentially the most important growing market in years to come. It's market share is ridiculous for the years it has been here, but then they wish to compete and beat just VW, GM, Mitsubishi and Fiat numbers. They are successful on that scale.
