re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

More Hara Kiri from Honda!! An enthusiastic petrol paired with a rubber-band auto transmission and a middle of the road oil burner paired with a manual! Honda India are smoking something exotic!!!

re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

Very sad to see Honda's half-hearted attempts at this segment. With over-all segment sales shrinking (thanks to SUVs) and worthy competitors like Octavia, the specs of new Civic are not going to fly well and Honda has killed the car even before the launch.

Very sad to see an iconic car like Civic rendered non-relevant by poor strategy and planning.

re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

Honda India knows nothing about strategy formulation! Zilch!

Who does the Civic appeal to? An enthusiast who will not mind spending a decent amount on an iconic badge (at least in Indian context), if he/she gets the right connect with the car. Why will that person spend money on a lethargic (by segment standards) 1.8l 15 year old engine, mated to a CVT, for all its dreaded rubber band effect? Or for that matter a middle-of-the-road diesel engine.

Also, how much more does a 1.5 turbo cost over this old 1.8l? Honda should haven gone right after the enthusiast...and it's not that the 'sensible' buyer will mind a more powerful engine. It's not a mutually exclusive club between those type of buyers. A 1.5 turbo send a message that Honda is ready to offer the best tech its has, in its global best selling model - to each buyer type alike!

I, for one, am disappointed.

Dare I say, this car looks like a Toyota. And as everybody and their Uncles know that's not a compliment. This car looks so plain Jane compared to the 8G Civic. Sorry Honda, you screwed up..yet again.

Fuel efficiency performance! What on earth is that? And on a Civic that too!

Really sad to see this coming from the manufacturer or F1 engines.

I honestly thought the powers that be at Honda would have taken note of how Octavia vRS was lapped up by our so called F.E. market over here.

Half Hearted effort by Honda indeed ! VW offers Turbo Petrols in cars costing 8 Lakhs in India !

I am seriously reconsidering getting one now. The all new CIVIC will be out globally in 12-15 months from now. If I'm getting the same old engine from my previous Civic, im wondering if its worth getting this car in 2019. Sure Honda India won't get the next generation civic for the next 5 years but knowing its available overseas will always bother me.

It's really disheartening to see Honda messing up once again with the choice of engines and transmission. The only saving grace for Civic would be it's pricing. But knowing Honda, with their track record, I am not too hopeful. Wish the powers that be at Honda India prove me wrong once.

Another new year and another nameplate loved by petrolheads has been mercilessly abandoned.

Why even bother resurrecting the Civic in its current form in a crossover crazy market?

They could have launched with one of the good turbo engines and made it a niche offering like the Octavia vRS. Would have added the much needed brand image that Honda needs now.

I sincerely wish that the powers that be in Honda price the new Civic sensibly and not fall into the pretentious trap that most auto manufacturers in India fall victim to. Sensible pricing is the key to long term success of any product as the Amaze has proven to Honda in it's segment. I pray Honda listens to the indian customer and not their indian management personnel and greedy dealers. This car has the potential to revive the executive class segment in india which is the mainstay of many car companies in world markets.

This civic better be priced really well. Old 1.8 engine plus 1.6 diesel locally manufactured engine both hint at cost cutting and this should translate to competitive pricing.

If not then then there’s no real usp for the civic.

re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

I suspect we're going to be sorely disappointed, aren't we? For a company that wants to believe their C-segment sedan's top variant is worth ~17 lacs, do they even have the space to price the Civic competitively?

If this car falls in the low-mid 20L bracket, it'll be a tough sell. For about 25% more money, one can get an Octavia vRS (if stocks weren't limited)! A proper smoking-hot Euro performance car that makes entry-level big-three cars look pointless, compared to Honda's awkward-looking and wheezy-motored half-arsed attempt at reviving an icon.

If you're going to be greedy Honda, at least give your customers bang for their buck

re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

I suspect the reason the turbo is not available in india yet is because they are probably still testing it for reliability with indian fuels. the other powertrains are tried and tested.
Even in the US, the turbo was launched very recently, and most turbo variants need premium fuel (only exception is the EX-T which is relatively rare)
In the US, honda managed to survive (and continues to) with the 1.8, so They probably think they can do the same for now in india.
Hopefully time and market response will force their hand on the turbo petrol

re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

It appears that the only usp for this generation Civic will be the fuel efficiency

It can only manage decent sales, if priced right. Since it will be available only in a single trim, Honda will have to really price this tight and they will have to operate in a narrow price range and cut the competition by considerable amount.

I'm assuming that the Civic will come at Rs 17.xx lacs for petrol and Rs 19.xx lacs for diesel (ex-showroom) and thus, will undercut both Corolla and Elantra by a couple of lacs.
