The Autocar Review is out. Is the Embargo over already?

My questions/concerns to mods to please cover in the reivew:

1. At 6:44 of the video this car passes over a breaker and scraping was a near miss, but with only one onboard. What if there are two to three people. Has a higher ground clearance helped really or the situation is the same.

2. Off late Honda's build quality and sheet metal thickness is going down. Case in point being the newer generations of the Honda City or the Tin Can Amaze. Since the car goes up against segment leaders Octavia and Corolla which are either tanks or really well built to begin with, how does Civic's build quality comply for the segment compared to the segment standards.

Autocar India (Interiors)
Quote:
So the interior isn’t quite as revolutionary as the last one. It’s still easily the sportiest in its segment in India, though, and it’s also been given a good dose of luxury. Build quality is really tight just about everywhere, and there are soft-touch materials on most of the dashboard. You might find a few scratchy bits lower down and some switchgear borrowed from lesser Hondas; but it’s all to an acceptable level.

The instrumentation is taken care of via a crisp and colourful high-resolution screen in the centre that looks really attractive; a worthy upgrade to the old car’s digital speedometer.

They’ve done a tremendous job of the seats, with cushioning that’s softer in the centre and firmer on the sides, providing just the right blend of comfort and support where you need it. As with the old car, it’s set low, so you have to lower yourself in – and you’ll soon realise the Civic isn’t going to be the best choice for the chauffeur-driven.
NDTV (Petrol CVT)
Quote:
The petrol engine is familiar, is reasonably powerful, but as is the case with most CVTs - is dulled somewhat by the very linear progressive build up that transmission provides. The action gets a little bit more exciting with the use of the paddle shifters. The CVT gets a sport mode but all that does is gives you higher revs and a more sporty sound (okay you can call it a growl!) from the engine. In performance terms not much changes, Yet I will say the CVT is a good idea - most people buying the car for a self-drive option will be using it in traffic, and here the CVT's mileage prowess and sheer comfort will shine through.
Overdrive (Diesel MT)
Quote:
Surprisingly, it's the diesel that ups the fun. Armed with the typical Honda short-throw, slot machine six-speed gearbox, it's a joy to put the 300Nm torque down on a hill road, using the gearbox to keep you in the power. It's not as narrow a powerband because the ratios seem perfectly spaced for low speed pottering around in second or third, and effortless cruising at high speeds, where the engine is ticking over at 1,700 revs at 100kmph, in sixth gear. The clutch has a light action too, and we don't see Honda's decision to not offer an automatic as too much of a bad thing, even for owners who drive themselves.
Autocar India (Ride and Handling)
Quote:
The reason we long for a bit more enthusiasm from under the hood is because the chassis really begs for it. They’ve absolutely nailed the ride and handling balance on this car. Where the old car felt sharp but a little too stiff-kneed, this one feels far more mature and well-balanced. Using MacPherson struts at the front and an independent multi-link set-up at the rear, the Civic stays impressively pliant, even over broken roads, despite its large wheels and 215/50 R17 tyres. Honda has also addressed the ground clearance by raising it 20mm to 171mm. It still handles really well though, with a sharp steering and really good body control. So yes, like its predecessor, the chassis lives up to the Civic’s sporty looks, and it despite its increased dimensions, the car really encourages you to push it around corners.
Verdict
Quote:
The game has changed, and so has the Civic. It’s evolved into a far more mature and premium executive sedan; but hasn’t lost its fun and sporty character in the process. In all, the 10th-gen Civic feels like the ideal successor to the beloved eighth-gen car, having improved in all the crucial areas without losing the traits that loyalists loved. Not only will it keep fans of the original happy, it’s also good enough to draw new buyers to its fold.

Feature grab from the video. But no charging port at the back?? The City has 2!!

There have been many compromises done to the Civic, hope the price justifies the same.

An interesting review by Zigwheels:-

Apparently the new Civic has only 30% localisation?

Sorry as per the Autocar review the petrol comes only in cvt form. I guess I was mistaken.

re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

A few video reviews mention that the seats are low slung.
This concerns me since I tend to suffer back aches and at times it is very painful getting into or out off sedans.
And most reviewers have mentioned that the ground clearance is better than the older version.
That is not saying much since the older one was much criticized for bottom scrapping.

I hope the official Team-Bhp review addresses these issues.

It's like the people who decide the specifications of this car are blind.
No diesel AT, same old (underpowered) 1.8 NA petrol, no real rear passenger conveniences.

Maybe they'll introduce a hybrid version next year and make a few changes, but with this spec sheet, I only see dedicated brand enthusiasts buying the Civic at this price.

re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

It would be really interesting to see how Honda prices the Civic; now that we have the facts and figures! Would there be a premium of the petrol over the diesel since it has a CVT or would there be a premium of the diesel over the petrol or would both be priced the same as did the first gen Octy. All said and done, it would make the Octy and even the Elantra appear great value for money once the prices are announced!

If that's the case, then it's DoA for sure, just like the Accord. Expect an insane price.

Very interesting to note that the Civic has no charging ports in the rear !

The segment leader in this segment sells some 200 ODD cars a month, and assuming that 50% of those buyers are chauffeur driven, then you are left with 100 self drive owners. Thats all Honda will be able to target ! No rear remote and no charging ports is silly in todays day and age..

Im definitely buying one but then ill never sit in the back seat. But i know many who will be upset by this omission.

re: Scoop: Honda Civic spotted testing in India! Edit: Launched @ 17.69 lakhs

There is a charging port in the arm rest bin and the wires can extent to the back passenger(s). Honda might have thought that it will sufficiently do the job and adding more will be an overkill.

Quite a conservative feature list from Honda atleast at this price. The Creta gets 85% of features at a much lower price and considering the SUV craze, it might just help the Creta in sales!

I know it is a completely different segment but when you factor in the price difference, the Creta seems compelling!

It is indeed a shocker to see no rear charging ports but for most customers, I don't think it will be as big a putoff to strike the car out from their shortlist. Chauffeur driven owners will anyways lean more towards the Corolla and Octavia for the sheer comfort they offer and better headroom.

Cheers!

You are correct. There are no plans for a manual at all. This combination does not exist
