I believe this is one of the few upgrades where newer one looks far worse than the outgoing model.
Suzuki has a history of making bland looking cars and this new Wagon R is there on top.:Frustrati

And then you remember our discussion few months before where I was wondering why would Samsung send an email to its employees regarding discounts on Maruti Suzuki cars. If I may say so, my better half received a mailer from Samsung about the offers and discounts from MSIL on their models for the employees. It rarely happens that an employer would send a mail on discounts on cars unless there is some kind of business relationship.
Somewhere I had doubts then that it would be due to some kind of partnership and your post confirms that clap:.
While the new WagonR hasn't caught my attention much except for the 1.2L engine option,

This definitely is impressive. Thats a bucket load of features that the new Smartplay system is offering and that too for a small car. The Bosch unit in the other Maruti cars look so basic and ancient in all aspects compared to this one. I guess this will replace the Bosch unit in the other cars as well. Kudos to the guys in Harman for coming up with this, though on a fair side, they already had a similar setup for Tata cars. But now, looks like MSIL will be their bigger customer.

Personally, never been a fan of their products, especially when it comes to my own cars that are incidentally Maruti - Wiper Blades, Spark Plugs or Brake Pads & incidentally all of these for my 13 year old WagonR. I have had negative experiences with all of them. Overrated for sure! (And should I even mention about the ordeal that my friend faced at their own workshop in Bangalore)
The Harman unit as part of ICE is a welcome step for sure. JBL/Harman have been brilliant with their products as OE for most Tata cars till now.
What's interesting is that Harman and MSIL have been developing this system since quite sometime. Just came to know that they started working around the 2016 Auto Expo. The time dedicated in R&D shows in the way the system flawlessly works, compared to the laggy and ancient Bosch System.

I was wrong in thinking that this system is a cheap Android based unit. I hope that the systems are interchangeable. I'll wait to see if the same is put in Brezza. If it's so, I might get this system put up in my Brezza
whenever we go in for the new Wagon R. stupid:
While the Harman sourced HU is a good step, how about the speakers and SQ in general of the new WR ?
Has anyone able to judge or feel the SQ from the stock ICE in the new WR ?
Maruti Suzuki's two new launches – Ertiga and Wagon R draws lots of attention.
While Ertgia crosses 55k, WagonR bookings are at 14k .
