Next-gen WagonR for India gets upmarket looks. Launch in early 2019.

Quote:

We've just got our hands on a fresh set of images that are understood to be of the final production version of the next-gen WagonR. Not to be confused with the WagonR-based electric hatchback that is being tested in India, the model pictured is the standard combustion engine version of the made-for-India car. It will be offered with petrol and CNG engine options.
Quote:

While different in look to the WagonR for international markets, the model for India continues with its slab-sided tall-boy look. Maruti seems to have worked on the design to make it more rounded at the edges and give the version for India a more upmarket look.
Quote:

The new WagonR is likely to continue to be based on the outgoing model's platform, which will be tweaked to clear the latest crash test norms. The current 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine will continue too, and will be tuned for better refinement. Also likely to be offered right from launch are a CNG option as well along with an AMT automatic option.
Quote:

Maruti is likely to add the SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system as well, at least on the top variants of the new WagonR.
Quote:

Expect the new tall-boy hatchback to reach showrooms in the first quarter of 2019.

Is 2019 WagonR ready for launch?

Speculated to be taken at its shooting spot in the backdrop of a water-body in Panjim, Goa,.

Nice one. It's appears bigger than the outgoing model.

I have always favoured WagonR over it's rivals for the space and practicality it offers.

Looking at the extra length, I think MSIL might put side facing split seats in the 3rd row making it a 7 seater, which would make Wagon R a perfect choice for large families who want a 7 seater but are on a strict budget. Currently the Datsun GO+ is the most affordable 7 seater but we all know how bad it actually is.

New Wagon R with that taller roof would be more accommodating, and might actually become an even bigger hit with 7 seats.

Well, if this one also is launched with the same set of engine AMT combination, I'll prefer to stay away from it. We're looking at replacement of our Wagon R with an automatic, but with the 1L K series, I'm not at all willing to pick it up. The low end torque is very poor. I hope they improve upon it. And if they're planning a 7 seater with that engine, let's see how it works.

This thing looks longer than 4 meters according to the proportions in the images, maybe it's a budget MPV?

The car in the picture appears bigger than current gen Wagon R. Can it be Solio under a new skin designed specifically for Indian market?
Maruti needs to replace it's Eeco van with possible better safety provisions and Solio can be an option.

This looks like a stretched version of the current gen WagonR. Overall a very poor effort. If you look at the other recent launches from Maruti, this looks like two steps backwards. I'd rather have the electric version that is currently undergoing testing being launched with the K10 motor.

It's ugly. The old WagonRs were nice to look even with their tallboy shape. Does it look the rear glass protrudes behind the metal part of the hatch?

Maruti is re-engineering the Eeco to meet crash safety norms.

Good looking car as per me. This is a personal opinion.
By any way, is this the three-bench version of the car that was launched in Indonesia a while back?

Looks like a 7 seater, may be an under 4m one. Reminds me of an earlier observation

It could be the potential replacement for Omni.

The Wagon-R was always ugly. But it always had space. Looks like they are sticking to that USP.

I had seen this on eastern express highway, mumbai a couple of weeks ago but couldn't take photos. It could be recognized as WagonR successor immediately.

Rumour: Next-gen WagonR production to start from January 2019

According to a media report, the next generation Maruti Suzuki WagonR is likely to go into production in January 2019. Spy images of the car have already surfaced online as the carmaker prepares to launch the model sometime next year.

The new WagonR is expected to be based on the same platform as the outgoing model. The spy images suggest that the car will retain its tall boy proportions. The front end is expected to receive a redesign with larger wraparound headlamps, new grille and bumper, while at the rear, the hatchback gets vertically stacked tail lamp clusters, a near vertical rear windshield with wiper and a new bumper with integrated reflectors.

Reports suggest that the new WagonR is likely to be offered with the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine as the current car, with a choice of a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT. The WagonR is also expected to get a CNG variant.

Looks like Maruti is preparing this launch to counter the 7 seater KWID.
car surely appears longer and should definitely be able to add namesake 3rd row seating.

Will there be a shorter WagonR as well ? or Maruti wants to have only the Celerio in that segment ?

I hope they keep a distinct identity and not sell this version for cabs as well. Wagon R is a very practical beater for city driving. I would probably pick this over the Celerio if they don't cab the car.
