Maruti Suzuki has sold 5 lakh vehicles with factory-fitted CNG kits since they were first introduced in 2010.

Maruti currently offers CNG option on seven models including the Alto 800, Alto K10, WagonR, Celerio, Dzire, Eeco and the Super Carry LCV. The outgoing Ertiga was also offered with a CNG variant but the new one isn’t offered with the green fuel.

According to the company, CNG variants constituted around 15% of the total sales across the 8 aforementioned models between April-November 2018. WagonR is the highest selling CNG model. In 2018-19 (upto November), CNG vehicle sales have increased by over 50%.

Maruti's CNG range is available in 150 cities across the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and in the National Capital Region (NCR).

LOL! Here is Maruti selling 5-lakh units of what is a relatively niche fuel, and on the other hand, we have manufacturers who haven't sold 5 lakh vehicles in total in India!

Primarily commercial vehicles & Uber / Ola. Maruti should share the CNG split between commercial : private owners.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki CNG vehicle sales hit 5 lakh units

Maruti Suzuki's drive to meet Green Norms is driven by CNG fuelled cars.

Quote:
Has asked dealerships to bid for licences to set up their own CNG dispensing stations to keep pace with the company’s plan of selling about 200,000 CNG passenger vehicles annually by 2022 by introducing more models that run on the eco-friendly fuel.
Quote:
Maruti’s strategy to focus on vehicles that run on cleaner fuels stems from the Union government’s plan to introduce Bharat Stage VI emission norms in 2020 and subsequently stricter fuel efficiency rules in the second phase of the Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency norms by 2022.

Re: Maruti-Suzuki CNG vehicle sales hit 5 lakh units

The best part with Maruti is that the CNG kit is factory fitted. It makes a world of difference when compared to those fitted at the dealer end.

Having used the Wagon-R Green for 3 years and 75k kms, i can vouch for its reliability, safety and weight balance. The sequential kit is very much at par with its gasoline cousin. I know the power drops by ~10% but not much difference is felt with the sequential kit in real driving conditions. Excellent fuel economy is another trait. I once did a Belapur-Pune-Belapur route on a single tank of CNG without AC. The FE calculated was over 32km/kg which IMO is just phenomenal.

The factory fitted kit also benefits from enhanced rear suspension, that is designed to carry around 100 kgs extra load and doesn't looks sagged. Self-lubricating valves are another positive, that ensures that the valves stay fit even with that dry fuel.

CNG is definitely a win-win situation for someone on a budget or for someone who is environment conscious. The only downside is those crazy lines at the filling stations. Situation has worsened in the last 4-5 years in a Delhi/NCR. The waiting time now is easily 30 mins vs 10-15 mins that was 4-5 years ago.
