Citroen Targets More Than 90% Localisation
India Could Also Become Export Hub

The first product from Citroen will be launched in India towards the end of 2021 and it is expected to be the C5 Aircross

The brand’s CEO Linda Jackson thinks India can act as an export hub in the near future especially for transmissions as the plant has three-lakh production capacity per annum. She believes that there is “real opportunity for growth” in India and her company will be able to make an impact due to the branding and positioning.

India will be a key market for Groupe PSA’s future sales prospects alongside China and South America, and Citroen plans to double its sales from 20 per cent in the next three years to 40 per cent by 2021-2022 outside of Europe. She also expect the unique styling and emphasis on comfort will ensure Citroen to sit “right in the very heart of the market”.

The models to be sold in India are developed as part of an international programme known as ‘core model strategy’. Therefore, do not expect India-specific vehicles, as they will be appeal for minimum of two regions. Wary of the price sensitiveness and to offer vehicles with VFM proposition, Citroen is also targetting localisation of more than 90 per cent while the quality of the products and service system are other top priorities.

Very polite way of saying

- No businessman is willing to invest big bucks into our dealerships.

- That's why we'll have smaller & cheaper showrooms.

- The dealership community still hates us for leaving them in the lurch the last time around (Peugeot's big promises 2 decades ago).

- Those wanting new dealerships are preferring the other two new brands (Kia & MG) making their India entry.

- We showed dealers the DS 7 Crossback SUV and they don't think that it is promising enough.

SAIC are going for fewer big dealer groups with many smaller dealer points

Kia are going for big Hyundai dealer groups, great way to leverage / balance skills and parts inventory.

SAIC/Kia have defined and shown dealers, the model strategies for India, PSA have not defined anything beyond the one model.

I spotted a convoy of C5 Aircross and DS7 yesterday on the Bangalore-Hyderabad highway. There were 4 C5s in different colors and 1 DS7 in the signature orange shade. They had taken a break beside the highway somewhere after crossing Kurnool.

Must say that the C5 is really wide but it lacks presence. It looks more cute than butch!

Sorry, I couldn't click any pictures as I was driving at speed and didn't get a chance to slowdown or stop to click them.
