Maruti Suzuki has homologated the new Ertiga and Ciaz 1.5L Diesel.

Ertiga: Available in VDI, ZDI and ZDI+ manual variants.
Ciaz: Available in Delta, Zeta and Alpha manual variants.

The 1.5L engine is rated for 94 HP @ 4000 RPM and is BS-IV compliant as of now. There is no rated change in gross weight for both vehicles.

Ciaz 1.5 D ready for launch?

Ertiga and the Ciaz 1.5 D as a BS-IV version, and will later be upgraded to BS-VI norms sometime close to the April 2020 deadline.

- Both vehicles will come with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard

- Ciaz 1.5 and the Ertiga 1.5 will not come with Maruti’s Smart Hybrid system.

- Lower trims will continue to be sold with the old 1.3-litre unit.

This means that Ertiga LDI and Ciaz Sigma and S-Cross continue with 1.3 units? I find that quite strange. Unless they have a clause in the contract somewhere wherein they need to purchase a certain number of units during "notice period"!

As per the planning, Maruti would be on track( or maybe earlier) in phasing off the 1.3 Fiat engine and could fall short of its BSIV production for the stipulated supply of FIAT engines as in the contract and hence IMHO will launch the 1.5 D for the rest of BSIV demand.

Maruti Ciaz 1.5L Diesel Launch Expected This Month

The new 1.5-litre diesel unit will be retailed only in Delta, Zeta and top-spec Alpha variants while the 1.3-litre SHVS mill will also be sold in entry-level variants.

It also comes equipped with a smoother gear shifter than the long-serving five-speed manual gearbox and will have dual mass flywheel.

The reverse gearing has been relocated with a lift lock.

What about automatic transmission as Maruti offers an AMT with the Brezza and now what will happen to that replacement? Havent heard regarding an automatic with the Maruti 1.5 diesel engine.

That is truly VFM pricing for the Ciaz 1.5 Diesel. It makes almost no sense to go for the 1.3 DDIS unless one is keen on the Sigma variant and does not want to compromise on the mileage numbers even a bit. Yes, the price difference between the 2 engines for different variants is different, but if we consider the Delta and the Alpha variants(the variants which sell the most IMO) the price difference is quite acceptable at 17k and 35k respectively.

For a small differential over the equivalent 1.3 diesel, you get a bigger engine with an extra cog which should make it a better cruiser than the 1.3 diesel. Though from the specs on paper, the difference in actual performance figures should not be much.

Does the 1.5 diesel come with the coloured MID like its petrol counterpart? If yes, another reason to avoid the 1.3 DDIS.
