This appears to be automatic transmission one. The central AC vents have shifted down quite a bit so the space above is liberated for a bigger infotainment system. A car of such proportions getting a manual IRVM? Or maybe it's just a temporary arrangement.

The 2nd-gen XUV5OO spotted again. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the first time we are getting a glimpse of the alloys.

Flat bottomed steering wheel in a 7seater family hauler! Interesting.

The Interior looks good IMO. I hope Mahindra resists the temptation of pricing it too optimistically. The current auto top model already touches 22.47L (on-road Lucknow). I feel Mahindra may target the upcoming Gravitas for pricing.

It would be great if Mahindra re-introduces AWD variants with this new-gen I personally resist the idea of a FWD/RWD only SUV. If Mahindra can launch this version without any gremlins from the launch itself along with the much sought after panoramic sunroof (on top variants at least); there would be no stopping for this one. Hope I am not asking too much

The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q3-2021-0af2b910331340a991f165370409ec9e.jpeg Any idea what’s with this taillight popping out? Is this some kind of makeshift arrangement to hide original lights? Looks funny though!

Re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q2-2021

This definitely is a makeshift design. The cavity behind i think reflects the true intended Tail Light design. Judging by the camo level and absence of some major bits from the test cars, I feel that the new-gen model may be still some time away.IMO

Earlier, lights were usually the last things to arrive at the manufacturer and they anyway undergo extensive testing at the OEM's end. Till then manufacturers use a stop-gap arrangement in the form of CV lights to make the vehicle road worthy.

This was a situation till a few years ago. Nowadays manufacturers do have access to beta spec lights and they can plonk them on the test mules if they wanted to do so.
I'm guessing it's more about creating more excitement in the market by revealing some details and hiding some!
Just the way we see test mules for engine/transmission upgrades being camouflaged.

Re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q2-2021

2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500 spotted with production-spec grille

New spy images of the second generation XUV500 have surfaced online. The latest images partially reveal what appears to be the SUV's production-spec front fascia.

The test car has a typical 7-slat grille and appears to be fitted with a production-spec front bumper. However, the camouflage makes it difficult to spot the details. Besides this, it still has dummy headlamps and turn indicators. The shape of the bodywork suggests that the car could get L-shaped LED daytime running lights. Another bit of detail that can be seen in these spy images are the new design alloy wheels and flush-fitting door handles.

On the inside, the new XUV500 will get a redesigned dashboard with a wide touchscreen infotainment head-unit and a twin-dial instrument cluster. Spy images have also revealed the car's flat-bottom steering wheel.

According to a media report, the new model could be sold alongside the current generation XUV500. It could be offered with a 2.0-litre mStallion T-GDi turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 187 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 380 Nm at 1,750-4,000 rpm as well as a 2.0-litre diesel unit.

Re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q2-2021

For some reason this next-gen XUV 500 is not looking as big as the earlier car. It is more Marazzo-like in it’s size, dare I say crossover!

The current XUV 500 is also roughly the same size as Marazzo. Length being exactly the same at 4585 mm.

Alas, Mahindra just seems unable to let go of its garish designs when it comes to the XUV 500 - they have produced a neat design with the Thar and even the XUV300, but when it comes to the XUV500 the devil comes out! See the 'Walrus inspired" fangs pointing downwards from the headlights! They go for the most weird ideas for inspiration. And XUV 500 is their favorite experimental kid. The Marrazo was another disaster inspired by an alligator or something. Kia is getting this same fever from Mahindra - the Sonet is supposedly inspired by a Tiger (the nose) and a baby elephant (the curled tusker-like inserts around the bottom of the front grill). Soon, there will be a race for rights over animals to be inspired by, all started with Skoda getting inspired by an Alaskan bear for the Kodiak.
