The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q3-2021

Mod Note: Our Mahindra XUV700 Review has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

According to a media report, Mahindra is likely to debut the second generation XUV500 by the end of 2020.

The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q3-2021-xuv500.jpg

Reports suggest that the next generation XUV500 is expected to be based on a monocoque, just like the current one. It is likely to be developed in collaboration with Mahindra's North American Technical Centre. In terms of its dimensions, the new model is likely to be larger than the current XUV500 and it could be styled by Pininfarina.

The second generation XUV500 is expected to get a new BS-VI compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine. It is rumoured to produce around 178 BHP. In comparison, the current 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel makes 153 BHP and 360 Nm of torque.

As part of its alliance with Ford, Mahindra is likely to share the next-gen XUV500 platform with Ford.

re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q2-2021

I have been hearing about this since some time from friends.

Couple of points:

1. There are a whole bunch of XUV owners who love the space, acceleration and VFM price tag of the XUV5OO. Even 7 years after the XUV launch, there is still no upgrade option for many XUV owners who want something better, more powerful, but unwilling to pay twice the amount as compared to the XUV. The 2020 XUV5OO can solve the dilemma of those guys.

2. Internationally (and now even in India), cars grow in size with each new generation. If you look at XUV5OO's official review (the very first one), you will notice that it was compared with the then Fortuner. The next-gen Fortuner and Endevour launched after that have been noticeably bigger than previous generations and sort of got promoted to a higher segment (D2). On the other hand, the XUV5OO got compared with Duster, Creta etc in subsequent years. So it was anyways about time for a bigger XUV with more powerful engine and respectable boot space with all 3 rows of seats up.

re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q2-2021

Do we have any cues on the design, any suggestive renders or design leaks, or any silhouettes - to help us look forward to this iteration?

I, for one, would be expecting some exterior overhaul. The current design, though still has machismo and has aged decently, isn't a head-turner anymore. On top of that some improvement in ride quality is also desired. But yes, one thing's for sure - it will carry a plethora of gadgetry and features when it comes.

Hope M&M can leverage their partnership with Ford in ways that make this version irresistible.

They definitely need to make sure there is sufficient cargo space in back after putting all 3 rows up.

At least Hexa/Marazzo level please, and the panaromic sunroof !!

re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q2-2021

My Wish list for 2020 XUV 5oo:

1. Increased boot space.
2. Sliding Middle Row.
3. Panoramic Sunroof.
4. Memory Seats (driver).
5. Ventilated Seats (front two).
6. Dual Zone AC.
7. Better Suspension.
8. LED head lights/Tail lights.

And Lastly and definitely not the least, better interior quality please My second XUV (2018 W11) have rattling sound already.

Rest is fine. Power and torque are just fine now, of course don't mind having more

re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q2-2021

While a power upgrade is always welcome, I think what Mahindra needs to get right, at least time around for the XUV is the following:

1. Bring down the weight. At over 2.5 tonnes (gross weight), it's massively heavy. A weight reduction will also permit them to work on handling, better ride and perhaps a slightly bigger vehicle.

2. Make the third usable for average-sized adults and focus on having at least an average boot size with all 3 rows up. A sliding mid row can solve that to a large extent.

3. The Mazarro was a good improvement on packaging and build quality (interiors). They should definitely focus on this area.

4. For God's sake, dont jack up the price for the sake of filling up the zone left vacant by competition. Keep it valuable and reap the rewards from volumes.

Certainly 1800 KG. With around 2100 KG itself, Tata Hexa is accused of being overweight 2.5 tonne must be the Ladden weight.

Apologize for the confusion! I was indeed referring to Gross Weight as quoted on their site and elsewhere ( I will correct my earlier post to avoid further misinterpretations). I have my doubts about the kerb being 1800, though. I would think it should between 1900-2000kg.

2020 Mahindra XUV 5OO speculated to be spied on test,

Quote:
The 2020 model of the XUV 500 has been spotted testing. this vehicle is bigger than the current generation. The testing mule was heavily masked. the car has bold lines which are characteristic of Mahindra cars. the overhang of the vehicle has also increased indicating that there will be a 7 seater version soon.

I would add reclinable third row to the list. So, good leg and shoulder room for 3 people in 2nd row along with reclining seats; and good leg and shoulder room for 2 people in 3rd row along with reclining seat; and a usable boot akin to the Honda BRV. That should be the design brief for the interior space for the new XUV.

If such a vehicle came to an on road price of less than 20 lacs, then it would really work.

From the spy shots, it is clearly evident that M&M has taken a evolutionary approach with the design which is a good thing as the current one looks quite good.
Other thing to note is that the A pillar looks very thick which will create a huge blind spot.

Don't believe there is any change to the A pillar. Looks same as current generation.

Does the angle of the windshield look slightly more MPV-ish? Somehow looks a lot more MPV than SUV in these pics, or it could be just the camo!

Big change though - the claw door handles are gone!
