I have noticed this too and I had pointed this few posts back. It appears like the car is under heavy load and there is no space left in the rear wheel well.

Re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q3-2021

The XUV5oo seems to be beating Safari already on some aspects. Prime one being delay in launch and the boringly long duration for which we are seeing test mule snaps!

The finish and design of the plenty buttons in the center console along with AC control dials - is a big turn off for me at least in this set of pictures. The Thar/Jimny like lower row just ahead of the gear shifter is nice. But the slab of push-buttons between the AC dials in piano black looks rather cheap.

As someone who has now spent some time in the new Safari and will continue to spend time with it as its in the family, I can tell you that you are not going to like it in there if you are expecting Hyundai level quality.

You will find several things that makes you wonder if this is a production model or a concept car.

Good enough for some slushy slippery slopes and inclines. Nothing that an expert off-roader can't do without electronic aids, but not everyone is an expert. Serious off-roading is a big No.

True. Reminds me of its future arch nemesis. The Harrier/Safari. It too has all the buttons on the dashboard in a uniform piano black finish. All three rows of buttons.

It is that last 5-10%. Feels robust enough. But some buttons, panels needs to have the level of engineering that will make them feel the same on day one as well as 20k kms down the line.

Testing cars may have their features and variants jumbled up, but if this is carried to production, a good thing.

Ventilated seats usually end up on the highest variants. Since here, there are features that are way cooler (not necessarily useful) like ADAS, looks like ventilated seats are offered in the second from top/upper middle variants as well.

Spend some time with it and you will know. There are elementary problems. Some of them are detailed in the Safari thread by those who have gone to take a look at it. Some are not yet come on that thread but will as more and more people take a look at it.

@Kosfactor: It will be very helpful if you can share your review on the new Tata Safari, it will help people like me immensely who are contemplating buying or waiting for some more time. If you already have shared something, then please do direct me there.

Re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q3-2021

The market today, especially in this segment, is like a currency mint. Competent entrants can start running the machine and spew out cash until, some challenger claims a share in the minting time. Look at Tata's success and business on a roll. Minting money on a safety unrated flagship flying off the shelves.

The launch of XUV later this year, around Diwali leaves a lot of time for Safari (the only direct competition to XUV) to mint currency unchecked. It also doesn't expose/evaluate the value equation of the Safari for what it offers at 25 lakhs, as customers do not have a proper yardstick to measure it against.

Re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q3-2021

W601 is now XUV700!

Finally, they have started releasing teasers. If the people who featured in the teaser are actually those who worked on the car, I really appreciate Mahindra for giving due credit to them.
Also, the naming (XUV700) hints at a significant price increase over the current XUV500. But that won't be a problem now as we have seen Safari and Hector doing great numbers.
A very important product for Mahindra, good luck to them!

Well who would have thought Xuv700 is the new Xuv 500. The takeaway from this name and teaser is the old Xuv500 is likely to coexist with the new model. They are catering to much bigger audience now. Big volumes coming from Mahindra soon.

This name change makes me almost certain that they will replace the alturas with this and move it up a segment.

As it's christined XUV700, it sure will be placed above Safari and so Safari is safe for now.

It appears to be very similar in size to the current one though. The current one is quite smaller than the Fortuner, Endeavour, etc. so I don't think this one will slot into their segment.

Re: The 2nd-gen Mahindra XUV500, coming in Q3-2021

Crash test dummies in the name reveal video may imply Mahindra will be releasing another 5* car from the get go.

And the 7OO moniker is clear indicator that the upcoming car is class above the 5OO. Maybe Mahindra is converging the XUV5OO replacement and Alturas G4 in a single car at price points between them (hence above the current 5OO prices) and continue with existing 5OO as is for next 2-4 years at least.
