re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

Some details on the upcoming MG Hector:

- Expected to be launched by end-May.
- Pricing range to be in the Tata Harrier/XUV500 bracket.
- Borrows some design cues from the Q5 for it's rear.
- Will come equipped with MG's own in-house developed AT & 6-speed transmissions.
- A Diesel AT variant will join the Hector lineup in the near future.
- Deliveries to begin from end-June.

Good timing to rope in Benedict Cumberbatch as the brand ambassador - His popularity in the Indian market will probably hit the roof with the release of Marvel's Avengers Endgame movie.

Any news on whether there is an AWD and 7 seater planned? Hector is large enough to accommodate 2 extra seats and that would give it an advantage.

The price is kind of high. Its almost 34L on road top model here. Also the interior design is the same as the Verna, Elantra, etc. and the new model is due in 2020.

Yup the price is high, should be below 30L, but I am still unable to find a good competitor to what it offers and I agree on what you said on the interiors. I heard the new model will be on sale in mid of this year. If its 2020 then I guess I should take the offer of 30.5 L for the top end. Damn if there was a way to know what they are planning

The 7seater can be expected in the later part of 2019. For now they would be introducing the 5 seater with loads of luggage space.

There’s no AWD planned AFAIK

I feel the interior issue should be resolved with the global facelift model which is due soon in India.
The exterior and interior are quite updated in the facelift model.
Yes I do agree with similar interiors the charm of owning a premium and not so premium is the same.
Similar to Maruti, Hyundai too doesn’t offer any different interiors.
Just hope they break away from this in their upcoming models...

Actually Maruti, Hyundai are following the footsteps of the luxury brands such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo. The segment above 50 Lac cars have almost all parts shared within the same parent brand (am talking about interior design & creature comforts, not chassis & mechanicals)
Its really high time they should start offering different design for every model. It would be so cool. No need to shift manufacturers if you want to upgrade your vehicle. Like I would not upgrade to the similar looking 5 series or an X5 if I had owned a 3 series.
Tucson I feel will come in 2020 only along with the BSVI engines. Besides, Styx is a very important car for them that will do huge volumes and then they need to update the Creta as well to justify the Styx's premium pricing (assumption) along side Kia's Sp2i (Creta rival). Guess Tucson will be third in their priority.

Bang on, the name strikes me as big and bulky!

No AWD planned as of yet.

7-seater & diesel AT earmarked for 2020. Possibly in the Hector's BS-VI iteration.

One close-up shot of the MG Hector's rear, possibly from it's UK media shoot session:

this reminds me of Toyota Qualis, big body on small wheels. somehow it does not look like an SUV, more of an MPV converted to be an SUV. SUV is not only about gadgets, its about lot more than that.

Does it say Hybrid in Blue lettering ?

If Diesel + Auto is not launched that would be a deal breaker for me.
It pains to drive a Petrol powered bulky SUV which returns 5 to 8 kmpl. My friend's Jeep Compass petrol Auto gives less than 10 kmpl (city + highway mixed)
