Re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

Got this as a forward on whatsapp. I guess the person is trying to say that the car has gone into limp mode.

I dont understand what he was saying but

1: Did he actually see it going into Limp Mode?
2: Limp mode means it could be moved to another area.

It could have been a dealer launch car being taken away

Anybody can make such videos, the place looks like a Mall or some commercial space.

The reasons why the dealer would not have wanted to drive the car in such a condition could be;
  • Without knowing the fault/reason, why would he risk further damage by driving it even for a short distance.
  • When a newly launched vehicle will be driven on the streats in limp mode, it will draw even more eye-balls leading to bad publicity.
  • Driving a car in limp mode will be a nuisance for other road users.

MG Hector breakdown[/url]
No matter which car or brand, a new release in market will have some issues which will be fixed over a period of time. His words ''boycott Chinese car'' is a bit too harsh statement. Be it Chinese, European, Indian or American, on road glitches after the start of production are inevitable.

Despite integrating sophisticated failure mode predictions, lessons learned techniques, fail safe launch methods, no car manufacturer could ever anticipate or predict 100% every single issue during calibration and testing that could occur in real world. This is an universal truth.

Perhaps, unless I am missing something, the person driving is merely passing a Hector being loaded and creating a sensation out of it.

Was he told or had he seen the Hector throw a warning light?

With his strong hatred for Chinese products, this could be a false news to defame the brand. In the video, the person says that this car went into limp mode (won't go past 40 kmph) when some customer had taken it for a test drive. He was also there to take a test drive and came to know about this from his source (whose identity he doesn't want to disclose).

Honestly speaking, incidents like these do hamper my confidence in the brand. At least 2 breakdowns have been reported on the internet and I have personally seen a test drive Hector stranded in Delhi because of some fluid leakage. However that car in Delhi had proper registration plates unlike the one in this video with red temporary stickers used by dealers for transport.

Just a click bait video. In actual, he was being critical but also cautioning the prospective buyers to wait for a few months for the initial issues to be sorted.

But as a thumb rule, I would consider any car with too much of electronics susceptible to hang up anytime. Be it a Japanese, Korean, German, Chinese or any make.

This surely is a paid video, could be from the competitors too. The words he has used like boycotting the Chinese car is a little too much.

This seems like parking of a 4 or 5-star hotel. It's surely not a mall as I could hardly see anyone walking/lifting bags.

Moreover, it can only be seen loading into a towing van, which explains nothing. In any event, people should wait for the official review and that'd clear everything.

Totally Agree. It could be anything, perhaps car being loaded before/after some weekend display event at some mall. Like typical Indian media, someone has sensationalized it with some imagination.

Re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

Got a chance to check out the Hector at the showroom last week. In a nutshell - a big SUV at a bargain price. Quality levels do not impress at all.

Space is the biggest USP of this SUV. And at the announced prices. The Hector is a size up on the Creta inside which is positively cavernous. It seems even bigger on space than SUVs in the Tucson class. The rear seats recline and legroom is fantastic.

The variant I was in, has this cloth fabric which was positively low rent. I would not be happy with it in a Maruti let alone in this segment.

The driver's seat was a comfortable place to be with big seats and a sense of space. The steering was well shaped however the dreaded electronic lock malfunction was on this specimen as well.

The auto gearshift has a manual override option.

It was interesting to note that the door curved under the body with a big rubber bush at the bottom of the door to guard against water ingress.

With plastic cladding all around it in the engine bay, the engine looked small. A far cry from how it fills the engine bay in the Compass.

I then climbed into a variant just below the top end. It was an all leather interior but even the leather had a low rent feel to it. All in all the lack of quality was perceptible and most of the hatches use quality materials much better than this.

Drive on,
Shibu.

https://m.indianautosblog.com/mg-rec...n-june-p318046

MG Motor India today announced that it has received 28,000 bookings and dispatches 1,508 units in first month. We heard that MG had paused bookings at 21,000 units, but now the officially confirmed number is 28,000 units.
Compare with Harrier which had 10000 dispatch as per TML claim, The hector booking number looks great.

But we need to see how they deliver the car in coming months and how it will perform in the long run.

Dear MODS,

Quite a few have been waiting here for the Official Team BHP reveiw and understanding that all media drives happened ages ago, not sure if there other reasons of delay!

Could we put an approximate date to the review?

If you have not read GTO's short review, check it out here

Since he said he will be driving the DCT in two weeks, I'm guessing that would be next week

Hopefully the official review will be in by Aug 12th or before, keep your fingers crossed
