Re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

Fantastic pricing. Guess Tata Harrier, XUV 500 & Creta will face the heat.

Quiet a few of us had (incorrectly) predicted that the Tata Harrier, with the package it had, will dent Creta's market share. Two quarters later, we are yet to see any evidence of it, thanks to Tata's pre-mature release with all its rough edges. Hector is now in the same race with better chance than the Harrier. If only it had an oil burner with a slush box at the least, it would be better positioned than what it already is, I suppose..

Looking at the vehicle size, engine specs, Power, features and the MG management intent and focus, I must say is price mein aur kya chahiye?

My comment was not on the drivability/performance in itself. More about that fact that everything should be put together well and users should not keep seeing niggles and failures due to a compromise on the quality in areas not visible to the end customers. (Just a hypothesis backed by no facts , MG may end up being the best out there too. Wishes for that to happen)

Long term warranty costs (if they are high) can burn a big hole in profit margins. The product team must be quite confident of their vehicle's quality.

How many months from "MG who?" to "10,000 advance bookings"?

I wasn't expecting such a warm welcome for this brand. Quite surprised. Well done MG. I hope the product delivers.

Re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

Harrier, Creta and Seltos should be more cautious now. I think Hector has the ability to do 1500-2000/ month in short to medium term. Not sure how it will hold in the long run.

Indian's are less risk averse higher up the price range, we saw that with the Compass and Harrier both did good numbers. Even XUV500 did pretty well at launch.

Brand is important but not a major factor in the 15-20L bracket. It's much more important in the luxury space and the entry level cars for absolutely opposite reason (exclusivity vs herd)

When Cruze was launched it was the sales topper despite Chevrolet as a brand not being big in India. I feel MG will have a decent start with Hector.

Re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

Sensible pricing I think. Personally I did not like the product but it definitely is loaded and quality feels good. For some reason, I felt the car will not age that well and hence could not connect with the car. Also due to its narrow and long body, it feels like MPV.

They have multiple touch points in cities like Bangalore and sales staff seem to be eager to sell (I could see two of them at same distance from my home, owned by same dealership)

Will they dent

Creta? No way !! Most of those Creta sales are for the base 1.4 Diesel anyway. However i see the Creta settle into 5K range due to Venue and Kia Seltos eating into the share from both ends of the spectrum

Harrier - Lack of AT will come back and haunt the Tata. They need to bring it ASAP. This car still has a better road presence compared to Hector

Overall this has the potential to settle into 500-1000 cars provided the initial batches prove to be reliable.

Re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

With this pricing, i hope it drives some sense into the overall pricing scenario. Esp the home grown manufacturers who seem to have gladly taken a liking to how Hyundai prices their cars. I really hope Tata and Mahindra who have proven themselves to a great extent now respond with better packaging and feature list. The days of deleting features and coming up with weird combinations of features across trims are numbered I hope. If nothing else, the Chinese will force the rest to not take things for granted and value my money!!

A diesel auto now will be really welcome. But wonder when since the compass itself doesn't have it in any trim except the crazy expensive trailhawk!

Now expect the Seltos to be priced even lower. Have been sitting at MG Showroom in Noida for past one hour and waiting for the TD to happen. Footfall is crazy! Seems Sales people aren’t able to attend customers properly.

Re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

MG has released competitive pricing that sits in line with the aggressive consumer conversion strategy that many of us predicted. It will be a perfect timing in that sense to introduce the 7 seater version in 2020 as already rumored. If MG is able to offer a good customer support then they will manage to elevate the competition to the next level. With the Shield package they have already promised a comfortable ownership experience to prospective buyers.

SAIC has been involved in partnership with GM in the past (with cars like Enjoy and Sail). They must have had learnings from that failed partnership and seem to be playing all the right moves with the new venture.

A big thumbs-up to MG for the pricing . Brings in much needed competition in this segment.

Echo the thoughts here. Competitors would now have to price their products carefully. Wink wink Seltos

Re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

Terrific Pricing by the new entrant MG. This is on the lines of a Huawei or a Xiaomi Smartphone - value for money, Paisa Vasool, Bang for the buck - just what the Indian masses expect.

Cant wait to see the SUV sales Charts once it starts selling. I am sure it will give a lot of pain to Creta/Harrier/XUV500 and the Compass. This should also influence the Seltos pricing. Good news for the customer

Re: MG India's first SUV named Hector. Edit: Launched @ 12.18L

Attractive pricing by MG. They have read well the typical Indian car buyer's mind. Hector offers too much of WOW bling on the car, so the average driving pleasure will not be a deal breaker, except for the car enthusiasts.

In the next couple of months, I hope we can expect good discount for Harrier!

This is quite interesting. Seems they are in the startup mode of “get market share now, think about money matters later”. (Or, amazon mode, if you will.)
