Re: Suzuki Vitara spotted testing in India

Maruti Suzuki Vitara, rivaling Hyundai Creta confirmed for 2020. New engines from Suzuki's line-up will power the SUV.

likely to be retailed through Nexa, the SUV to measure 4.3m in length and get a boxy and muscular stance.

Quote:
Powering this new Maruti Suzuki SUV will be two BS-VI-compliant engine options – a new 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine, and the company’s new, in-house-developed, 1.5-litre diesel engine, which will be introduced in other models next year onwards.

What remains to be seen is whether the company will also ready a seven-seat version of this new SUV, seeing as Hyundai is set to offer a seven-seat option with the new Creta.

Maruti did lose traction in so called SUV/soft-roader land by not launching Vitara and launching a S-Cross then. This should have come earlier. It might have garnered sales somewhat near Brezza. This should be offered with hybrid tech as we are moving forward to EVs and Hybrid technology.

Re: Suzuki Vitara spotted testing in India

If I am not wrong, they have placed orders for Fiat's 2.0 Diesel from compass! But this is rumoured to get the new 1.5L diesel Are they planning even more premium car for the 2.0 or did I miss something ? This car with 2.0L diesel would be an absolute blast IMO.

Re: Suzuki Vitara spotted testing in India

A creta rival is getting ready for 2020 launch, but it may not be the Suzuki Vitara afterall! The new India specific product is likely to be loosely based on the next generation Vitara -

Quote:
In an interview with Autocar India, Kenichi Ayukawa, MD and CEO, Maruti Suzuki, confirmed the company is currently evaluating a bigger SUV that will slot in above the Vitara Brezza and take on the Hyundai Creta. “We are studying that type of vehicle, a big-size SUV. We are discussing here and in Japan to see whether we can develop it,” Ayukawa said.

Expected to be loosely based on the next-gen Vitara, this new Maruti Suzuki SUV will be larger (expected to be around 4.3 metres long). Something Maruti Suzuki learned (with the crossover-like S-Cross) and executed to perfection (with the Vitara Brezza) is the fact that Indians like their SUVs upright and imposing, and this new Creta rival will have a boxy and muscular shape, with an upright stance that’ll give it the presence it needs.
Likely to be powered a 1.2 Turbo petrol engine along with the newly developed 1.5 diesel -

Quote:

Maruti Suzuki studied the prospect of offering the Ciaz’s new 1.5-litre petrol engine with this SUV, but dropped the idea in favour of the 1.2 turbo-petrol. “SUVs of this size need to have strong mid-range performance, which only a turbo-petrol engine can provide”, said a company source.

1.2 litre petrol engine, though it's a turbo petrol, on a cross over will make the cross over under powered. Certainly the 1.0 turbo petrol on Baleno RS is by no means express and I don't have much hope on this vehicle combination. A true differentiator would be to have at least a 1.5 turbo charged petrol engine on a cross over.

I hope they at least make the vehicle safe and don't produce a tin can cross over.

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki's Creta-rivalling SUV coming in 2020

Hope the new one is similar to the butch-looking Third gen Grand Vitara (2005 - 2012). Maruti launched that one in India with a thirsty petrol and withdrew. I still get tempted when I see one of those available for sale on olx/ quikr.

Creta-rivaling Maruti mid-size SUV coming in 2022; 7-seater MPV in 2023

According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki could launch the Toyota Raize-based mid-size SUV in the Indian market in early 2022.

Rumour: Maruti Suzuki's Creta-rivalling SUV coming in 2020-download.jpg

Maruti's mid-size SUV will be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) - a low-cost version of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). The Raize-based SUV could be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a mild-hybrid system and it could be mated with either a manual or automatic gearbox. However, there has been no official word regarding this yet. It is expected to be pitted against the likes of the Hyundai Creta.

Maruti and Toyota are said to be co-developing two models based on the DNGA platform.

In addition to the mid-size SUV, Maruti has also lined-up two new models for the Indian market. These include the Jimny and a C-segment MPV. A 5-door version of the Suzuki Jimny is also said to be destined for India and could be launched in 2021. The Jimny could be sold through Maruti's Nexa retail channel.

The carmaker is also said to be developing a 7-seater MPV that is expected to arrive by 2023. Codenamed B560, the new model could be positioned between the Ertiga and Toyota Innova. It could get sliding rear doors.

That is some good news! This could be a nimble city and off-road vehicle for many if priced right. From all the reviews I had seen, the highway manners still somewhat feel like a descendant of the Gypsy. I just hope Maruti adds some extra safety features (maybe 6 airbags), at least as an option pack. Fingers crossed for a diesel too.

If I had to make a calculated guess, the S-Cross will probably be replaced by this new Raize-based SUV. But then knowing Maruti, they may sell these together. Too many options and cannibalisation within the brand is not necessarily a bad thing.

Does anyone think it will steal the Creta and Seltos' thunder when it is launched? Will it make it into the top 10 selling cars in its first month?

Very difficult - korean cousins have 1.5 NA, 1.4 turbo, 1.5 diesel with 3 different auto boxes. Maruti will have 1.5 NA only most probably. If it is same 4 speed auto also then

Exactly what I was thinking. Maruti is salivating just thinking of the Creta + Seltos' enormous profits, but the fact is, Maruti simply does not have the tech capability or R&D to compete with them. It's one thing to think of selling a 15 - 20 lakh car, but entirely another to execute it. Take something as simple as a BS6 diesel = Kia has been selling one since 2019, while Maruti might sell one by 2021. Dual clutch AT? Dream on. Diesel + AT? What's that? Maruti will also find it challenging to match the quality levels of these two. It's like asking the local Dominos to serve out a pure-Italian gourmet pizza. Not impossible, but quite difficult.

Re: Creta-rivaling Maruti mid-size SUV coming in 2022; 7-seater MPV in 2023

Pure textbook case of To Little To Late. Trust Maruti to do it time and again and Indians to still crowd thier showrooms.

Having Toyota by thier side, with all thier technical expertise and a global product range just waiting to be unleashed in the Indian market, I do not understand what is stopping / delaying the launches?

If Maruti wants to still stay competitive and relevant in tne Indian market, they will have to do something really quick.

No Diesel, no competent AT, supposedly low on build quality, Maruti is only surfing the age old Kitna Deti Hai wave.
