Rumour: Maruti Ertiga to get 6-seat variant with captain seats

Mod Note: Our Ertiga Report has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki is likely to launch a 6-seat variant of the Ertiga in the coming weeks. It is expected to be positioned at the top of the Ertiga line-up. The 6-seater variant might be retailed through Maruti's Nexa sales outlets.

The second generation Ertiga was launched in November 2018. The MPV is currently offered with a 7-seat configuration. The new 6-seat variant is expected to get a pair of captain seats in the second row, replacing the bench seat. Rumours suggest that Maruti might also offer faux leather upholstery and premium interior options on this variant.

The Ertiga is available with a choice of 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine that makes 103 BHP and 138 Nm of torque and a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder diesel that puts out 89 BHP and 200 Nm of torque. Both engines get Maruti's Smart Hybrid features like Idle Start Stop, Brake Energy Regeneration and Torque Assist.

Maruti is also expected to debut its BS-VI ready 1.5-litre diesel next month. The 6-seater variant of the Ertiga could be the first to get this new engine.

I have mentioned this on the other Ertiga thread too, will this be having the Suzuki TECT body as it may be retailed through Nexa outlets?

I wish apart from interior & exterior cosmetic surgery for the cross version they do add cruise control & automatic apart from new engine.

Because all others can be fitted after market. these are main souls for a family tourer according to me.

If they keep new 1.5L diesel to this version and continue with 1.3L for Ertiga, they can have good price difference.

It makes sense to have one in Nexa showroom as the top end ZXi+ Ertiga misses out on a lot of goodies like DRLs, LED projector headlamps, LED strip on the tail-lamp (like Indonesian markets), Individual reading lamps in the interior (like Baleno or Ciaz) and sixteen inch machined alloy wheels.

I am sure they will keep the 1.5L diesel only for Nexa brand for now.

Just this Ertiga will move to Nexa? How weird. This is the first time in history that you'll have to visit a separate showroom for a mere variant. Nevertheless, I welcome the variant itself. Big fan of captain seats here .

No way is Maruti going to update the body. What you get already is what you'll continue to get.

Please don't give them ideas! The 1.3L is so old & outdated and with a full load of passengers + cargo, it will struggle, especially on inclines. Better to have the 1.5L diesel offered on more variants (just like the new WagonR is offering the 1.2L on the VXi & ZXi).

Maruti can decide to bring the BSVI 1.5L engine to Ertiga next year. That gives it a whole year to milk the 1.3L machines, while maintaining the price gap and perhaps ironing out any imperfections from Nexa vehicles. Maybe at least for a year, these two engines can be differentiating factors between Arena and Nexa.

A 6-seater variant with captain seats would be great. Its a pain crawling into the last row of vans like Ertiga/Innova, folding seats and then the same rigmarole while getting out.

Re: Rumour: Maruti Ertiga to get 6-seat variant with captain seats

My wishlist

. 2nd row captain seats
. Captain seats recline by a large angle (45 degrees)
. At least one of the captain seats is one touch tumble
. Leather or faux leather seat covers
. Suzuki TECT body for improved safety
. Bigger tires - 205/60R15 would be great
. Underbody protection for the engine
. More aggressive SUVish front grill
. Body cladding for improved SUV looks
. Improved interiors - especially the front dash
. Offered in both 1.5 petrol and 1.5 diesel
. Atleast 2 variants (ZXI, ZXI+, ZDI, ZDi+) in both petrol and diesel.

Also hope they don't increase the ground clearance. The current ertiga didn't feel very planted above 100 kph. Larger tyres should improve the stability, but any increase in ground clearance would negate that.

Then there goes the differentiation between a normal Maruti car and a Nexa car. I was actually surprised to know that only Nexa cars are having Suzuki TECT body which gives a stable structure. So going by the logic, Nexa cars are not actually premium but are equal to other company cars while the normal Maruti cars are cars with a poor structure.

It will be a big mistake by maruti if they fail to give TECT body on ertiga six seater if it is launched as a nexa model.

If they don't want to give TECT body, they should simply launch the six seater as an arena model.

Losing the differentiation of nexa(as more safe, more premium cars) will be very costly in the long run. I don't think maruti management will do something that stupid.

So, i would presume that if they launch the six seater as a nexa model, then they will give the TECT body. Otherwise, it will be launched within arena.
