Verna CRDi clocks an outstanding 38.7 kmpl!!!

Hey whats wrong...if you all feel that amongst the 60 vernas few were de-tuned..or tricks were used to get FE of 38+ why dont you think about fiesta that was run on a race track...dont you think that was too a detuned car?...PLS Give both cars a fare trial...If detuned Fiesta can give 31 KMPL then detuned Verna gives 38+...whats the big deal?...No offence to Fiesta owners I like fiesta too but only bought verna because I wanted 110 BHP under my As*. Fiesta is a better package than verna any day

Guys Rohit gets 20 FE in city driving so its possible to get 30+ on highway....well one more thing verna is vgt well most people know wat that is, may be, that helps........well my verna give better FE than my indigo.....indigo is 62bhp and verna is 110.....so guys tecnology matters......

Why am i not surprised when today's TOI ad for the Verna mentioned that some Deepak Kumar's Verna returned 38+ kmpl during the mileage run. After reading about it on this thread yesterday, it was just a matter of time before it was claimed by Hyundai.

What's wrong if hyundai claimed that? I guess it was hyundai who organised the event.

I can believe that the Verna will give 39 kmpl in controlled conditions. Here the claim is that under normal conditions with a fair amount of traffic the car returned almost 39 kmpl. Let us see, Rohit gets 23 kmpl on the highway doing speeds of 100-120 kmph. Now if the speed were to be reduced to 50 kmph and with very careful driving, I can imagine that the mileage can be jacked up to maybe 32-33 kmpl atmost under less-than-normal traffic conditions on the highway (in this case, it was a Sunday morning, so less traffic is expected). The remaining gap probably has something to do with tuning/tyre pressures and maybe other tricks.

@rohitbagai, I think in a high-performance car like Verna, it is necessary to keep in touch with the tyre pressures you are running. It is OK to check about once in a month, but not less frequently, especially if you are doing highway runs. Before highway runs, at least visually inspect your tyres to see if they are in good condition and holding air.

And you should know what pressures the dealer or tyre shop guy sets. I have heard of cases where a new car has been delivered to people with 40 psi pressures (the car is transported to the show room with high tyre pressures and these are not always reduced by the dealer). A local tyre repair guy set 60 psi in my tubed spare tyre after puncture repair. I went home and found that out after about a week. Luckily I didn't need to use that tyre for the highway after that (I changed to tubeless).

Since you have upgraded to lower profile tyres, a slight increase (~2 psi) from the recommended pressures would probably be optimal.

When FORD did the same, people were up in arms against it. I was just pointing out that ALL manufacturers resort to the same practice of taking the mileage-conscious gullible public for a ride.

OT: My car was delivered with 36 psi when recommended is 32/30 psi. I was surprised when I found out this.

That's unbelievable. When we placed order for CRDI, we were told by the sales person that Company claimed mileage is 16-18 KMPL, whereas the feedback from owners are 13-14 KMPL. Is this kind of difference in mileage is possible even between an average & exceptional drivers?

PS: Purchaser would be really happy to hear this news. And this needs to be passed on with ** (conditions applicable)

Why dont we have a 0.8l VGT too,or maybe a 0.6l vgt.

Thought of putting this link in this thread. I believe it was already posted in TBHP..Swift claiming 28.06 as the top mileage when they conducted similar "test drives"..

I personally drive Swift and have never got a mileage more than 12 in City and 18 in highway..and I am sure this would be the story with 99% owners of this car. So, lets us accpet these as just a marketing tool opted by these car companies to increase their sales figure..Lets not read more into it

Guys honest figures for a Verna are in the range of 15-18kmpl. A very close friend bought one on my recommendation & I have also measure the FE on a recent highway journey. And the Verna will never give you 20kmpl in the city unless you drive like a Christian Motorist!!
