Tachometer vs Engine sound. What do you prefer more while gear shifting?

Just a simple question:

What do you prefer more while gear shifting?
The RPM meter or the engine sound (exhaust note) or both or something more beyond this.......

Note: If your car is an automatic, vote in the "Other" option and mention it in your post.

Let the polls begin....

Dear Mods, insert more options if required...

It's best to hear the engine "talking"... but with loud exhausts that make cars croon, why let it talk when it can sing...

I would like to use the RPM limiter. Yes, when it kicks in or just before it.

Tachometer is superior than engine sound as the later can often be subjective judgement.
In some good sound proof cars, engine sound hardly changes between 2000 & 3000 RPM.
Although one can always go after speedometer reading. Many cars still don't have tachos.

Depends:

1. If I am racing, then the tacho always. Reason is that the other cars exhaust noise can drown yours.

2. If I am just driving fast for pleasure, the engine sound.

I try and sense the comfort level and shift, apart from when iam redlining the engine. I cannot put it down in exact words...Lets say its a mechanical reaction after a while.

Mostly the feel of pull and exhaust note. May be a glance at tacho later. Pull --> note ---> tacho in that order. tacho some times is optional.

For me, its mainly the engine sound and till the engine is smooth on the road and don't give hard sound as if its crying its fine for me.

for me its always the tacho.
never liked to hear the sound of a crying engine beggin for an upshift. unless a sweet aftermarket exhaust comes into the picture.
