True, its a laudable achievement. But Plug ins are not true electric vehicles. Let's count pure EVs for the sake of simplicity and I believe 2019 is the year China will cross the 1 million mark.

How many of you know, in China petrol/diesel car sales in December, 2018 are down by 22% compared to December, 2017. 2018 is the first time in 2 decades China posted decline in vehicle sales. While petrol/diesel sales down rapidly, EV sales grown by more than 70% in 2018.
Clubbing up all segments don't count. The Chinese sell several million e-bicycles with Li ion batteries but they can't be counted as electric vehicles.

Again, the 1 million number is not pure EVs. We may see that only this year or 2020.

I am not underestimating the EV movement. Infact I like EVs as they generally are free from extortionist government taxes since electricity is a general fuel. What I don't like is governments around the world trying to manipulate the market for electric vehicles.

In India, you don't need incentives for electric vehicles. The high fuel price is a big enough incentive. What I don't like is the government picking winners and losers.

Ambitious. In fact, over-ambitious.

But I think it's a good thing. One of those cases where one "aims for the stars" and hopes they might at least "reach the skies!" Aspects of mismanagement and corruption aside, this will give them the impetus to possibly make more progress, at least on this front, than any other state/country for that matter.

May the (electric) force be with 'em!

Amravati is yet to happen and will it ever happen is a moot question. This is just a political gimmick. What will people drive after 2024? The Govt will start doling out licenses to those who can own fossil fuel vehicles at a "price" means "corruption". Rest will ride on bullock carts!

I feel this thread turned more political than what even politicians could make it.

What do you mean there is no capital anyway? Does all capitals should have millions of people living there?

AP has capital named Amaravati. They chose to build a new capital instead of setting up in already established cities like Vizag or Vijayawada. Entire govt administration is already functioning from Amaravati for over 2 years now. They already built temporary Secretariat, assembly there. Even high court moved recently from Hyderabad to Amaravati. Just because lakhs of people are not living now doesn’t mean they won’t in future. Are you expecting everything to be completed in 5 years or else you won’t consider it as a capital?

I’m sorry if this feels like rant, but it’s sad to see people mocking a state for aiming high. AP may or may not achieve these ambitious goals but it’s worth trying than nothing.
