re: The 2019 VW Polo and Vento facelifts, now launched

I happened to check out the Vento TSI recently. Although it's still a competent product, all of us felt that the interior quality has drastically gone down in the past 5 years while prices have gone up by 40-50%

VW, get the latest gen Polo and Virtus ASAP. We're sick of your cheap and boring games!

It's because of the new MQB A0 platform that is being used for the new MK-6 Polo. This new platform will require all-new tooling and an entirely different assembly line to produce, something that VW is not looking to invest in, for the MK-6 Polo.

They would much rather overhaul the assembly line and tooling and use the new MQB A0 platform for their upcoming compact SUV, than use it for a large hatch that will most certainly cost 10 lakh ex showroom at launch.

Shows VW's commitment to India. The rest of the developed world are driving the beautiful all new Polo for a short while now, with new engines and all we get is a face lift. Way to go VW!

re: The 2019 VW Polo and Vento facelifts, now launched

Just cancelled my polo GT TSI booking after a day with my friend's polo and a rented TDI. It is so impractical for a small family with large people.VW should put in efforts to bring in the facelifted polo and vitrus with 1.0 TSI. I am keeping my powerful figo tdci and my comfortable S cross for now.

The dirty diesel scandal has hit VW investment capital hard. In addition to settlement payments, VW are pivoting hard into electrics. Therefore any decision they make needs to be hard and long as also focussed. VW will focus and product development and the higher volume markets like Europe and China market. Lower volume regions will be overseen by Skoda and Seat.

So why not the new Polo - the reasons are many
  • Cannot meet target price (we like it impossibly cheap and fully loaded!)
  • Hatchbacks are a static segment
  • As Suhaas mentioned, refitting a factory to MQB does not justify the volumes. The combined volumes of Skoda, VW and Audi sold in India still do not justify the capital.

However, India loves SUV's which seems to be the best best for the volume game. So Skoda are developing a low-cost T-Cross based version using the MQB-A0 to bring in the volumes and amortise the cost before introducing the Polo/Virtus.

My guess is that they will come only if the compact SUV makes the numbers and the economy recovers. Would expect the midlife upgrade to be introduced.

No matter how old people may call the car, it still looks so beautiful. Especially the picture of the Vento facelift in red with the blacked out roof. Looks like from a segment higher compared to others in the segment. VW makes the best timeless designs.

Polo also looks good, but it is showing it's age more than the Vento.

Current-gen Polo and Vento to get a mild styling update; new BS6-compliant 1.0-litre TSI engine being readied too.

The seen exterior face-lift is likely to be followed up with another in April 2020 with the BSVI engine.

While the made-for-India SUVs (T-Cross and Skoda Kamiq) from VW Group India will use the 1.5-litre TSI EVO engine, the smaller 1.0-litre TSI motor will power the Volkswagen Virtus sedan that will come a little later to replace the Vento

Under the hood, the TSI variants of the Polo and Vento will get a new BS6-compliant 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit replacing the 1.2-litre motor and also the 1.6-litre MPI petrol engine. The new VW 1.0-litre TSI motor is from the EA211 series and is likely to come in a 94hp as well as a 115hp version, depending on the model. Apart from the Polo and Vento, this new engine will see duty on the Skoda Rapid as well.

This new engine will be locally assembled in India as part of the brand’s India 2.0 strategy, which also includes the market introduction of future models like the Volkswagen T-Cross SUV and the Virtus sedan.

They are still making about 10 billion dollars of profit after taking caring of scandal related costs and keeping some money for future costs related to scandal

Does Skoda have plans for using the new platform for India ? The market has changed so much and VW has lagged behind. But then any investment by one of VW or Skoda can be leveraged by both with re-use of assembly lines. More than the investment costs, it could be distraction for VW to concentrate on India.

re: The 2019 VW Polo and Vento facelifts, now launched

I don't know why a company like VW hesitates to take risks by introducing new platforms in a market as large as India. What stops them from introducing MQB-A0? Why are they milking the decade old Polo and Vento? Why can't they launch an Indian variant of the Up!? Sure, the initial investment would be high but it would pay dividends in the long run. I'm pretty sure the cost of developing a car for the European market would be much higher. There are no dearth of buyers for VW cars in India yet, masses and enthusiasts alike. Bring new models and people will buy. And, the bonus is, the sister company Skoda can update their portfolio as well and increase sales!

The Polo and Vento look good to my eyes even today but then my head would say an absolute 'NO' if I were to buy them in 2019, botox jobs notwithstanding! High time VW/Skoda come out of their confused strategy for India.

Those alloys are just horrendous. And I thought MS's alloy game was poor. VW just asked them to hold their oil.

Also, does it mean that the new MQB based Polo will not be arriving to our shores in the next 3-4 years? If another facelift is to follow in 2020, and VW will let that run for an year or two, we are looking at late 2022 or 2023 for the latest gen Polo to arrive here.

Skoda's ( and VW's) product plan currently spells out only 2 products from each .

1. T Cross/KAMIQ in 2021

2. Virtus/Next Skoda Rapid in late 2021/22

If they decide to bring the NEW Gen Polo ( will be a global face-lift?) it will be 2022 or beyond.

Over a decade old design but still looks better than most of the other latest vehicles available in segment.

re: The 2019 VW Polo and Vento facelifts, now launched

Updated Polo/Vento coming this year end.

- Apart from cosmetic updates, both models are likely to get the BS6-compliant 1.0-litre TSI motor.

- Polo and Vento facelift is likely to carry forward the 1.0-litre and 1.6-litre MPi engine that is likely to be upgraded to the upcoming BS6 emission norms.

- The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol found in the GT TSI and Vento TSI is most likely to be replaced by the BS6-compliant 1.0-litre TSI motor. Available in two states of tune -- 95PS and 115PS

- The Diesel variant is likely to be axed.
