Bit unfair to these fine gentlemen I feel .

Better to plot events like:
Wholesale model stagnation
Idiotic engine changes (CVT in A4, dropping 1.8 TSI & replacement with 1.4 TSI, late introduction of 2.0 TSI)
Raising prices and then discounting heavily
Outright arrogance of dealership staff etc.
Massive changes in dealership principals across India

Re: Whatever happened to Audi India? Why is the brand struggling since 2016?

Adding to this old thread...

As per multiple dealers across India, the Audi Q3 and A3 would be launched in 2022. Surprised to see Audi delaying their "Bread-and-Butter" product launches.
No wonder they are losing the German Trio fight in India and even a new entrant company like Volvo is beating Audi, leave alone JLR.

The brand value that Audi holds in India has drastically fallen down in the past few years for reasons best known to them. Frankly speaking, the German Trio has become a "Duo" now. Bringing in CBU models won't attract people and they should really focus more on the CKDs and bring in their Mass-market models and take India seriously. Audi should really care about their sales figures otherwise such days aren't far away when Skoda would be better received than an Audi, in India...

Globally, Audi is pretty strong and doing well (Not sure how long that will last). Don't know what's wrong with them in India!

Recently I was talking to a renowned Audi dealer in India and I was categorically informed with utmost assurity that Audi is "planning for a Number Game" this year and aims for the no. 1 spot in the chart by this year-end. Hard to believe, but yes that is exactly what I was informed!

Year-end discounts are almost 10L+ on an average, even on models like the X1/2series and A-Limo/GLA. I have no idea what numbers Audi is expecting and what discounts it'll be offering this year-end with its range starting with the A4 and Q2, in order to be no.1 this year!

I think they became VEGAN and gave up on the concept of bread and butter the moment they discontinued diesel engines in India.

Audi India sales double in 2021 after 3-year decline.

Audi India made a turnaround with a 100% growth in sales in 2021 where volumes doubled to 3,293 units against 1,639 units sold in 2020.

The numbers for Audi, however, still remain a far cry from the peaks it had hit in 2011, where it had sold 11,192 units. Directionally, though, this is the first time after three years where the company’s numbers have moved up strongly.

Re: Whatever happened to Audi India? Why is the brand struggling since 2016?

To be honest Audi India started losing prominence in my mind when they launched the current gen A4 with 1.4 litre engine in 2016 when Skoda was offering Octavia and Superb with 1.8/2.0.

Around the same time, BMW and Mercedes got their assembly lines calibrated and won the CKD game. They could reduce the gap between global launches and India launch significantly. What boggles me is that the current gen Q3, their best seller, took nearly 3 years to be made available in India.

Their bread winners A4 and A6 couldn't offer enough value to end customers. Undercutting rivals or offering cash discounts is not a good strategy to counter product design and features.

Audi also got left behind as the focus of the India management completely shifted to India 2.0 MQBA1 strategy and the Audi brand had no role to play in this.

And lest we forget, putting rims from a 2014 honda city on cars worth 50L
