re: Maruti S-Presso, the SUV'ish hatchback. EDIT : Launched at Rs. 3.69 lakhs

I personally hate the design but I have hated all generations of Wagon-R equally passionately. If people buy the Wagon-R even today, this contraption should sell. Yesterday I saw the car up close and sat in it. I would buy this over a Wagon-R any day especially for the prices rumoured (Read Alto K10). Add to it BSVI, Crash compliance, Decent real world FE(hygiene factors) and good handling with a biggish Boot (bigger than my grand i10) and a touch screen, it ain't so unpalatable for an Alto/ Celerio buyer. I understand the logic behind the product but wish they had a different shell design.

Received this Whatsapp forward yesterday and had a good laugh

Very surprisingly, even the non auto-enthusiastic people among my friends circle had a good laugh and agreed about the absurdity of the design! I think Maruti Suzuki will have a really tough time to sell this thing to the masses.

So, Suzuki continues its tradition of naming tiny cars after Italian coffee drinks! First, there was the cappuccino. Now, the S-presso.

The Espresso is a bitter thing to swallow. Nowhere as smooth and refreshing as the Cappuccino.

Have to eat my words. This looks horrible.

But then when did looks stop a maruti from selling. Look at current alto/wagon-R. The points which matter to market(for this segment) will take care of the sales.

1. Brand Maruti- check

3. SUV-ish looks - check
4. Features should be in line with Kwid atleast.- hopefully
P.S: Read somewhere online :

WagonR : People call me ugly.
S-Presso : Hold my engine oil

Interior looks rather funky. Much better than the exterior.

re: Maruti S-Presso, the SUV'ish hatchback. EDIT : Launched at Rs. 3.69 lakhs

Budget pricing + AMT + Spacious + Good FE + Maruti, is all that is required to sell.

My opinion is that the city dwellers(who were primarily Kwid lovers due to its high GC & SUV'ish stance) will lap it up with no second thought. Agreed, it isn't the best looking and it will not scorch w.r.t sales, but it has all that is required to outdo the Kwid in sales figures.

Unfortunately, Renault India R&D, marketing teams will be forced to go back to their meeting rooms after this car is launched.

I have similar feelings. I can't say I hate the design but I don't love it wither. Looking at the TVC, Maruti may have a super winner at hand. I may prefer this over the new Wagon R just for the compactness compared to it, although I hate the K10 motor for city drivability.

What's up with Varun Dhawan and TV Ads for quirky small SUV wannabes?

First it was the Mahindra KUV100 first and now the Suzuki S-Presso.

In production form, the S-Presso gets an all-black interior with colour-coded orange bits on the top-spec trim. The dashboard is upright and features a centrally-mounted digital speedometer and tachometer. Maruti’s SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system is positioned right below it, taking centre stage. The speedometer console and the infotainment system have a large circular outline that is reminiscent of the Mini’s unit. The central AC vents are positioned on either side of this circular enclosure.

Additionally, some of the features of the top-spec S-Presso can be confirmed via its interior image. The budget, high-riding hatchback will come with the same steering wheel seen on the Wagon R and among other Maruti models, get steering-mounted audio and telephony controls, manually adjustable wing mirrors, front power windows with controls mounted on dashboard, a manual HVAC and a 12V socket, along with USB and AUX inputs positioned next to it

re: Maruti S-Presso, the SUV'ish hatchback. EDIT : Launched at Rs. 3.69 lakhs

I don't think this car is going to work for MS.
Irrespective of anything, Indians do care about the design of their vehicles. One of the reasons, why some of the MS cars have failed in the Indian market. The Ignis is a clear example. Moreover, I've seen plenty of consumers absolutely hating the instrument cluster being in the centre, instead I feel it will help boost the sales of WagonR which looks much better finished product compared to this be in terms of fit and finish or the overall outlook of the vehicle. The Kwid facelift's design is much better and has that feel good factor to it. The Spresso shouts economy all over & Indians don't like that.
MS should get back to the drawing board and work on it's designs, this one manufacturer seriously need a bunch of better designers. I cannot believe they're the same guys producing beautiful hatches like the Zen & first generation Swift.

There should have been skid plates under that big black bumper. Maybe it will come as accessory.

My goodness! That centrally mounted instrument cluster, in this day and age, is reason enough for me to stay away.

Wonder who in their right mind invented this idea of positioning the instrument cluster at the centre!

Some pointers from the pictures, that have been released:

1. No rear wash-wipe on any of the variants.
2. No alloy wheels (but wheel covers).
3. Front power window switches seem to be placed on the dash, next to the hazard switch.
4. No rear power windows, but old school roll down ones.
5. Fixed head rests all across.
6. Pull type door flaps.
