It may not eat into indica territory, but definitely, the swift petrol will have a tough time. So, watch out for more price reduction or freebies on Swift Lxi and Vxi in coming months.. especially Vxi one (where difference is only power windows compared to Ldi) (assuming the LDi has same features compared to Lxi).

The price sounds just right. Time to upgrade from my WagonR.....
The price of petrol VXi in delhi ex-showroom is 4.26 lacs and the diesel VDi is 4.96 lacs. The diffirence should be around 50k for all cities. So i am speculating the price of ex-bangalore to be around the same as ex-delhi.
Also ABS with EBD is optional with VDi.

However, this also indicates that MUL is all set to announce another diesel car in its line-up within next one year as it is unlikely that Swift diesel alone could notch up sales of 3 lakh units per annum even in the next three years. Whether the new plant will cater to third party sale of engines, or is meant for its own consumption, is not clear as the company does not want to give out any details right now.

Khattar refused to comment when asked if Maruti has plans to launch any other car in diesel or CNG/LPG fuel version. Before Swift Diesel, MUL had launched the redone WagonR in a LPG variant and it has been selling like hot cakes.

The company would launch two more cars by the end of this calendar year. Though Khattar did not give details, one of these would be the new, completely redone mid-sized sedan to replace the existing Baleno which has recently been discontinued.

Other than the rather dated entry-level sedan Esteem - whose sales have been dwindling - Maruti does not have any other offering in the mid-size segment and none whatsoever in the premium segment. Even the sales of its only sports utility vehicle (SUV) Grand Vitara have been abysmal.

Swift currently comes in eight, mostly vibrant, colours. The three new colours are Arctic white, Ozone blue and Iridium blue. It will be offered in two variants LDI, priced at Rs 4.68 lakh, and VDI, priced at Rs 4.96 lakh respectively.

A sporty version of Swift is also on the cards. However, it is unlikely anytime soon as the company is keen to take on Honda, Hyundai and Toyota by diversifying and broad-basing its portfolio as competition is gearing up to challenge MUL on its home turf in a big way.

What about FIAT?

I feel sad that the creator of this wonderful engine is no where to be seen. Fiat & GM had this engine with them for last 4 years but could not capitalize. Only hope for TATA and FIAT is to get this engine in their cars.
Fiat & GM deserve their current plight for their leathargy, undecisiveness.
The senior managers of these companies deserve boot for not reading the mind of Indian customer.

The spec sheet says that the VDI will have the following over the Ldi
Power windows
Tacho
Fog lamps
Optional ABS and EBD
Central locking
12V socket
Left ORVM...
Maruti Swift
The Price of the Vxi, which is similar trim to Vdi = 426000
The Price of Lxi which is similar to Ldi = 399000
So the pricing is 70000+ on the diesel, which is, frankly speaking not a good deal if Hyundai brings the getz at about 30-50,000 above the petrol model.

Here is delhi price list : Maruti Udyog Ltd: Maruti 800, Alto, Zen, Wagonr, Versa, Esteem, Baleno, Grand Vitara, Gypsy, finance, insurance, accessories, true value, fleet management solutions

Leaving out the left ORVM in the Ldi is silly really. That is something which should be there even on the most base model of any car today. I dont understand what kind of cost cutting is this?

I think its there on the Lxi or isnt it?
