re: Citroen C5 Aircross to be launched in India in 2021

So finally the Citroen is in India. I owned a Citroen C4 when I was in UK and really enjoyed the car. It was fully loaded for its age. I wish Citroen nothing but success in Indian market. Hope they price this baby right.

Spotted this cool Citroen C5 Aircross doing rounds on the Chennai highway. I was following it for around 2 km. The car seems to be tuned for comfort. Too early to say though. Looked at the interiors too - seem greyish black. The driver saw me clicking photos and floored her leaving me in the dust.

Why do you want to be so judgemental? I think you have just made a very sweeping and general statement.

Just because someone plumps his good hard earned cash for an aspirational European car instead of a Korean or Japanese middle class car, does this automatically make him a snoot? And does every single European car owner squeal like a stuck pig the moment he is faced with the service bills?

The thread is about Citroen. To an extent I can agree with you that this may not be the best time for them to enter India on account of this CoronaVirus and all.

But they make very good cars. I have driven a Citroen C6, C5 and C4 at different times in Europe. They are very nicely appointed and comfortably roomy hatchback cars. I like their looks a lot too.

Citroen will be quirky in their design, which may appeal more to the niche than the mass market. Dont ever forget Citroen was world famous right from the early 20th century for their suspension - built perfectly for the rough rural French roads and the cobblestoned roads of French towns. The humble 2CV is probably the easiest car in the world to fix and move on with. The Traction Avant was way ahead of its time with its front wheel drive and long, low slung beauty. The Citroen DS was light years ahead with its fantastic hydraulic suspension and steering and it even could if required, ride on just three effective wheels in the event of a puncture.

Citroen will certainly bring some refreshing designs to this battered market which only seems to get ever boring bland appliances, not cars, from the present lot of S E Asian, Japanese, Chinese and what have you, manufacturers! Buying a car nowadays is like buying an Airconditioner or a Refrigerator!

So, in my view, Citroen will provide some relief to the buyers here. And enable them to be different. Or at least think different ...

But just because of these kinds of points of view, it doesnt make every niche market consumer an automatic snoot or squealer, as you seem to be implying above in your post!

Spotted this black C5 plying on the ECR between Chennai and Mahabs. Looks pretty neat in black, specially the rear.

re: Citroen C5 Aircross to be launched in India in 2021

4 Citroen models in the pipeline for India, Citroen EVs to follow later.

- The first Citroen launch in India will be the C5 Aircross - Q1 2021 , assembled from import kits

- A sub-4 metre SUV like the Hyundai Venue - Q2 2021

- Premium Hatchback like the Hyundai i20 - 2022/23

- Sedan segment like the Hyundai Verna - 2022/23

The other three models arriving after it will be manufactured in India and green sigmalled for India. They are being developed as part of the ‘C Cubed’ program and will be based on the CMP platform, which Groupe PSA and Dongfeng Motors co-developed in France.

Quote:
Citroen vehicles in India will be built at a plant in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. This plant was previously wholly owned by Hindustan Motors, but now Groupe PSA has an undisclosed majority stake in its ownership

That plant looks quite bad I mean I have seen pics of KIA plant and this looks like something out of the 80s.

This is not a new plant, this is the plant Hindustan motors used to role out Mitsubishi Lancers if I am correct. The same is now used by PSA to assemble C5.

re: Citroen C5 Aircross to be launched in India in 2021

I found this advertisement while scrolling through my Instagram yesterday. To me, it looks like Citroen India may be taking a leaf out of MG's playbook and will try to play the heritage card.

MG Motors occupies (formerly) GM's Halol plant. I dont see any problems with the Hector as a result. Lets wait for the product before judging anything.

Eagerly waiting for Citroen. They build quality automobiles that are rugged and reliable. I am a big fan of Sébastien Loeb and Citroen World Rally Team. The numerous championships they have won is a testimonial to the quality of their cars.

I don't think we can call these 'spy shots' as I don't see any attempts from Citroen to mask their upcoming launch!

Is it possible that these uncamfouflaged cars is a ploy by Citroen to create some brand awareness and also get people used to their design language?
