Mod Note: I guess the topic has been discussed enough & the poll results make their point. Let's close it before things get too hot to handle.

Boycott Chinese accessories - Thoughts?

Hello people,

So what are we feeling about not purchasing Chinese accessories for our vehicles with the on going tensions between us and China, and also because China is China?

Many of us have purchased lots of different stuff - from Head units to lights to seat covers etc. etc. and quite a few of us seem to be happy with them.

What do you guys think? Are they good alternative made in India options that are not overly expensive compared to China?

Should we even be thinking of boycotting Chinese products in a competitive international market scenario?

Do you guys think demand for Chinese cars - the MG - will take a hit at all due to this sentiment?

Re: Boycott Chinese accessories - Thoughts?

A noble thought as a responsible and loyal citizen of India but while common man intends to save pennies flying to China, big business houses import items worth millions.
How can you avoid certain items of necessity? Laptop, PC and their components are all made in China only. Pen Drives, peripherals, hardware and even cables are Chinese manufacture. The list is endless. Till suitable replacement is not manufactured in India or sourced from any other country, it may not be feasible to boycott completely.
Other items, which are manufactured in India, but also sourced from China could be avoided but at what cost ? Consumer is already burdened by heavy taxation in the name of falling economy, reduced Bank Interest on savings, job losses, failing business and other fronts. Now, to expect the citizens to buy Indian products in lieu of cheap Chinese products seems to be a Herculean task.

When ever MG Motors puts out a tweet nowadays, the hidden replies are more entertaining than the posts under that tweet.
Have been observing this for past month.
Some folk proudly proclaiming that they get have cancelled their order (no way to confirm this independently).
Let’s see how their sales are from July onwards.

Re: Boycott Chinese accessories - Thoughts?

Like Amrik Singh said, the dependency on Chinese components is so heavy at various levels of manufacturing, that I don't think it will make any difference whether we boycott some cheap accessories or not. Maybe I may not seek out and deliberately buy Chinese products, but unless there is a better alternative to match my needs on a day-to-day basis whatever the product does, I wouldn't drag nationalism into this. Life has to go on first, no matter where the country of manufacturing of some useful accessory.

Speaking of this in the automotive context, the entire electronics industry in the automotive world is also heavily dependent on Chinese components in pieces or entirety. Boycotting may cause little effect even if the outer brand of accessory is not Chinese.

P.S - was this intended to be a poll? Maybe you should add voting options to see what is the breakup of folks on either side of the fence

This cannot be a fair poll if the question is just 'Yes' or 'No'. 'Yes' means Nationalist and No means 'Anti-National'.
To be fair, most 'Ayes' would be conditional. i.e. availability of alternative and at a competitive price, if possible.

True, a couple of agnostic levels have to be added as well
