Re: Volkswagen T-Roc spotted in India EDIT : Now launched at Rs. 19.99 Lakhs

To give a perspective on this pricing , we need to take into account the tax bracket.

Below is the import duty bracket , which is 60% for the T-Roc

The Volkswagen T-Roc, now launched @ Rs 19.99 lakhs-siam1.jpg

Below is the GST+Cess bracket , which will be 45% if the car is locally manufactured

The Volkswagen T-Roc, now launched @ Rs 19.99 lakhs-siam2.jpg

So by this logic, even if the car is locally manufactured even with their existing assembly lines, it will cost ~ 18 lacs which is the Creta / Seltos top-end pricing . VW have priced this bang on and there is no 2 thoughts about it .

We keep complaining that VW keeps selling 10 year old models in India and for once they show interest in our market and if the ownership experience turns out to be good, they can think about local manufacturing . As a manufacturer , I wouldn't even bother to setup an assembly line if the product doesn't sell even 2500 units a year.

Re: Volkswagen T-Roc spotted in India EDIT : Now launched at Rs. 19.99 Lakhs

Guys this pricing is just about ok. It's really not bang on and wow inspiring. There's a few reasons for this.

1. It is a CBU but they are absorbing the cost for import duties for this year. Next year it will be CKD and they will not reduce prices. It's just VW absorbing the cost for the quantity of CBU's they have imported down. Take it as CKD cost of 19.99L.

2. This is a small crossover. The Harrier AT top spec XZA+ is also 19.99L for a SUV that's 2 sizes bigger.

3. The outgoing Octavia style and then Onyx was sold at the same price with a 1.8L TSI motor, independent suspension and it was a much larger and spacious car.

4. Internationally this car is basically the Golf hatchback raised up. And most international reviews put it a notch below the Golf as the interiors are not as good quality with hard plastics.

5. On road in most cities will cross 24 lakhs and in cities like Bangalore well above 25L for a small front wheel drive crossover.

I, for one am looking at it as a small, fast city runabout.

Yes, its expensive, especially when compared to the likes of Creta & Seltos.

I have tried the Kia Seltos 1.4 turbo petrol auto and though the space is good enough and the gadgets are all there, I didn't enjoy it too much.

Going to replace my 2009 Corolla Altis with this, if all goes well.

Yes it is indeed DQ200 ! I had checked on it a few days back on the international websites and it was mentioned as the same. But don't worry the current DQ200 is not the same as of yesteryears. The issues seem to have been sorted out with the Gearbox. I recently bought an Octavia 1.8Tsi L&K after doing my due diligence on the gearbox. Cheers !

Re: Volkswagen T-Roc spotted in India EDIT : Now launched at Rs. 19.99 Lakhs

T-Roc could be a good option for customers looking for a premium soft roader and not comfortably with Jeep Compass and find the Seltos/New Creta slightly low rent.

For me the dealbreaker will be the interiors.
This quality must be atleast at Octavia levels. My understanding is that the T-Roc is based on the Polo? Pls correct if wrong.

As the owner of a pre-worshipped 2013 Jetta 2.0 TDi, I am very impressed with VW quality levels. Nary a squeak or rattle in 108,00 km and paint and plastic quality is excellent by class standards.

If the interior quality is at Jetta levels then we would gladly consider the T-Roc as an upgrade for our Brio in two years time.

Honda's decision to not bring in the HR-V just seems incomprehensible to me.

T-Roc is based on Golf, T-cross / Taigun are based on Polo, but the reviews everywhere say that the new Polo / Golf have better interiors than T-Cross / T-Roc. But the exact details will only come once the reviews for the indian version start coming out.

Re: Volkswagen T-Roc spotted in India EDIT : Now launched at Rs. 19.99 Lakhs

19.99L is indeed a great price for a CBU with a sturdiness, craftsmanship & the design element of a German brand like VW with an OTR price of around 24L in Delhi.
But is it really value for money ? If you compare it to the Skoda L&K 1.8Tsi you get a vehicle which has all the features of the T Roc and in addition :
- 30 Extra horses on the engine !
- 4689 MM vs 4342 length
- Superior Canton Sound System with 8 speakers & a subwoofer
- Park Assist function
- L&K badging that looks really classy.
- 12-way Electrically adjustable Front seats with 3 memory functions for drivers seat.
- 8 vs 6 airbags
with all the discounts you can get it for marginally over 25L in Delhi.

However where the T Roc scores is :
- Active - intelligent Cylinder technology.
- Electro Mechanical parking brake
- Heated front seats (Not sure if of any use in a hot country like India but a heated massage bed in Spas is really nice if you have experienced one
You may decide for yourself.....

They can price it like that because the new Octavia will have the same engine. The 1.8 TSi won't be on sale after March.

Re: Volkswagen T-Roc spotted in India EDIT : Now launched at Rs. 19.99 Lakhs

T Roc brochure states the Length as 4324 mm. However, i checked every international source including the manufacturer specs say T ROC length as per them is 4234.

Which one is factual?

Small difference but huge liability to officially misrepresent facts. Typical VW?

Pretty surprised to see the DQ200 on this. Thought the newer cars and this especially being a CBU would come with one of the newer DQ series gearboxes.

Heated seats but no electrically adjustable driver's seat. Quirky.

Re: Volkswagen T-Roc spotted in India EDIT : Now launched at Rs. 19.99 Lakhs

Booked one today by paying 25k. A good thing about this whole TRoc is that you don’t have variants to choose from. I am so annoyed at Kia for confusing people with their plethora of variants.

Kudos to VW for launching one fully loaded variant. Well almost.

I too would have preferred the powered seats instead of the heated seats. I guess this is the only missing feature, however will not be a deal breaker.

Test rides to start from April onwards and the new car deliveries to start from May onwards.

Looking forward to the test drives.

Even the top of the line R variant offered in EU does not have. Hmm!
Heated seats is indeed strange; may be Vienna leathers are too cool
