Actually, that's what I meant, perhaps I wasn't clear. The indicated price is in Octy/Jetta range. A CBU T-Roc on the same platform should rationally be much more, but then......

Both news can't be right. And logic tells me to believe the former!
..... on second thoughts, if the idea is indeed to gauge the market reaction, with an intention of localizing it if the reaction is positive, you can't do that sincerely by pricing it 50% higher. You know the result even before starting that experiment. Ideally, you experiment by selling it at the same price you intend to sell after localization, and that can be slightly above Octy/Jetta. They don't have to exhaust the quota of 2500, just about 500 would do. Let's say VW bears the additional cost (save a bit on homologation, though I am not sure how expensive it is) --- at 10Lakh/piece that would be 50Cr. Does that sound like a number VW will spare?!

That's sad. Perhaps they don't want to compete in the same segment anymore.

16-18L is the bracket where Hyundai sells Creta 1.6. I don't think VW would be able/wanting to launch the 2.0 TSi anywhere below 25 Lakhs Ex-Showroom!
VW has never launched a VFM product, and i don't see any reason for them to do so this time around.

Hope this helps VW bridge the gap between Polo/Vento offerings (along with the aspirations of existing customers) and the next available offerings like Tiguan/Passat which are 3 segments higher up!

Wonder what happens to spares and support for such limited units of CBUs after the lot is sold out

re: The Volkswagen T-Roc, now launched @ Rs 19.99 lakhs

I dont see VW bringing the T-Roc to India as a few people that I've spoken to confirm the brand firing all cylinders to make India 2.0 plan a success. This means there might be no new model until the new T-Cross and Skoda Kamiq hit the showrooms.

If at all, T-Roc comes to India, I dont expect it to be priced anywhere below Rs 18 lakh ex-showroom as the top-spec T-Cross (with massive localisation) is expected to be around Rs 16 lakh mark when launched.

VW T-Roc, Touareg, Tiguan Allspace to arrive in India

VW India will bring the three SUVs as CBUs under the government’s new 2,500 unit annual import quota. The Volkswagen Tiguan is already on sale in India, and that will be followed by the T-Roc, the long-wheelbase Tiguan or Tiguan Allspace. VW is even in the process of bringing out its big boy, the Touareg. What we will also get is the Polo-based T-Cross, which will be manufactured in India.

Volkswagen to bring in imported model before Diwali

“In a couple of months we should see some product action. T-Roc is one of the potential cars (but) we have not yet decided. What is clear is that it has to be an SUV. For us, Volkswagen will become an SUV brand. That is the clear focus. It does not prevent us from having sedans but SUVs will be the focus,” said Steffen Knapp, director - passenger cars, VW India.

Grapewine is again starting on this, as a CBU without homogenisation, which is permitted upto 2500 units, but not sure if that will push the costs up.

Launching soon.... any insider views?

Volkswagen to Launch T ROC at the 2020 Auto Expo.

T-Roc as a brand shaper and influencer, to pave the way for the T-Cross based compact SUV that shall follow

Quote:
The T-Roc will be offered in a petrol-only avatar with the 1.5 litre turbocharged TSI engine. And will come with the 7-Speed DSG dual clutch automatic gearbox as standard.
Quote:
VW T-Roc will be pitted against the likes of the Jeep Compass, MG Hector, and Tata Harrier. Pricing will be key to any success, and so VW India is aiming at a Rs 18-19 lakh price point.
Skoda to launch its equivalent, Karoq at a later date in 2020.

VW Germany: Damn we have some leftovers, what do we do?
VW India: Send us over, the european leftovers are easy sell here in India. And since its a CBU we can price it 3-4 times the competition!

Far from it, the T-ROC is selling like hot cakes. As VW is limited to importing 2500 cars, they can import a few and play exclusive!

re: Volkswagen T-Roc spotted in India EDIT : Now launched at Rs. 19.99 Lakhs

From the design and dimensions (along with the expected pricing), this seems to be the VW version of the Compass sans AWD capability.
The ground clearance of 140 mm is worrisome though.
Any interior pics available to check out space and packaging?

Looks somewhat like a cheaper Audi A2 from some angles.I hope they launch the 2.0TSI 4motion along with either the 1.5TSI or the 1.0TSI considering we won't get VW diesel's from now on..

2.0 TSI is not possible IMO because the lowest state of tune that it is offered in is 190 bhp and also it is not offered on the T-Roc in UK. I don't think they will offer such an engine in an SUV which will sit below the Tiguan. Heck even the likelihood of the Tiguan/Kodiaq duo getting this engine post April 2020 is very less.

So I think the 150 bhp 1.5 TSI will be the standard engine for the T-Roc and may be just may be the 1.0 TSI for the lower variants. But this also looks unlikely as the 1.0 TSI produces just 115 bhp in international T-Roc which will feel really puny in face of the competition.
